New Bridge Opens on US-280 in Alabama

Starting Friday night on March 6, drivers will shift onto this new section, weather permitting. This move is part of a larger effort to widen the highway between Homewood and Interstate 459. Crews installed the first three girders back in November, and now with traffic on the new span, they can start tearing down the old bridge. Nighttime lane closures begin Sunday, March 8 at 7pm, and run through Thursday, March 12, with lanes reopening each morning at 6am. This highway sees about 100,000 drivers every day, so these changes aim to ease congestion in the long run. Officials appreciate the public's patience during the disruptions. Demolition work will continue with more overnight closures from March 15 through 19. A full shutdown of US Route 280 at Pump House Road is set for the weekend of March 20 to 22nd.
