I'm Corey, and this is your Pulse of the City, Birmingham News today. A new bridge over Pump House Road in Jefferson County, Alabama, has hit another delay. Originally set to open Friday, then pushed to Sunday night. The Alabama Department of Transportation still has not given a new date for drivers. This is the first phase of a larger project to widen US 280 from Lakeshore Parkway in Homewood to Interstate 459. The bridge will have one lane in each direction, a center turn lane, and a sidewalk, but it is not the final version. Local residents along Pump House Road have dealt with months of overnight construction noise since work started last November. Folks say the late night work makes it hard to sleep, and they have asked crews to wrap up by 11 or midnight. Now, demolition of the old bridge kicks off Sunday through Thursday with lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., expect the same the week of March. 15 through March 19, and a full closure of US 280, the weekend of March 20 through March 22.
Al Dott says the full wide and highway should open by October and urges patients from those impacted during these final steps. D&N is sponsored by our partner. Check out the episode description.
