This honor goes to the top girls high school player in the state, a tradition dating back to the 1984-85 season, a panel of observer sportswriters and talking preps show hosts picked them after chatting with high school and college coaches. The winner gets revealed next week at the state championship games in Winston-Salem, complete with a big banner for her school gym. Over the years, the award has spotlighted stars like last year's winner, Kate Sears from Otaga, and back-to-back champ Sarah Strong from Grace.
