NC Board Member Resigns Over Campaign Donations

0:00Reporting from the Daily News, now I'm Corey with the latest in Durham, a Republican on the North Carolina State Board of Elections has resigned just days after the primaries. Bob Rucho stepped down following claims he made illegal campaign donations while serving on the board. He gave around $1,200 to re-election bids for Kataba County Sheriff Don Brown and Iardell County Sheriff Darren Campbell. State rules clearly banned board members from contributing to any political candidates. During Thursday's board meeting, State Auditor Dave Bolique, who named Rucho to the post less than a year back, accepted the resignation and thanked him for his work. Rucho brings a long background in politics as a former state senator where he led major legislative committees. Meanwhile, officials have tapped Angela Hawkins, Republican Chair of the Wake County Board of Elections, to take over the empty seat.
