Nasty Storms Thursday, Severe Weather Sunday

0:00Kansas City, brace yourselves for two rounds of nasty storms kicking off Thursday evening. The National Weather Service is calling out damaging winds as the biggest danger, with the whole metro area under a slight risk, that's level 2 out, a 5 from the Storm Prediction Center. Thursday starts breezy with south to southwestern winds around 15 mph and gusts up to 25. A cold front rolls in from the west, dragging warm humid air with dew points in the low to mid 60s and southerly gusts hitting 32, 35 mph. Tim's climb to the upper 70s. Storms might hold off most of the day thanks to an atmospheric cap, but expect them to fire up mid afternoon along that front from northwestern Iowa, through southeast Nebraska and east central Kansas. The main punch is those damaging winds, but large hail and even a quick tornado aren't off the table, especially in eastern Kansas and far northwest. In Missouri, some spots could see over one inch of rain. The risk spreads to parts of Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota too.
