I'm your host Gracie, and I'm just so overjoyed and thankful that the Lord has just given me this opportunity, and I just cannot wait to see what he does this season. I hope that whenever you listen to the episodes from this season,

So with that being said, come as you are. Take a seat and listen to what God has done in the lives of others because he is willing and able to do the same for you. Hey guys, welcome back to the Come As You Are podcast. So there I'm here with a friend of mine, Carter Brown, and he's just going to introduce himself and just take it away. Yeah, my name is Carter Brown. I'm a youth intern at Friendship About a Search. I study at Liberty University online, and you know, God has been an incredible season. So I just wanted to come on here and share kind of my testimony and share kind of my call to ministry, and about just what the Lord has done in my life and how he's worked in just miraculous ways that I couldn't even possibly understand. Yeah, because I will say that like it's been a blessing. I know that like we were really close during, I guess, my high school, and like your high school, but like watching you, like the way that the Lord has moved in your
life and like seeing the way that like his pap has just like directed you and like you've listened to it and you followed it. It's just been such a blessing to see. And so I'm excited. Yeah, I'm super pumped for this. I came out late. All right. Oh, it's so good to get you up. All right. Um, I guess I started from the beginning. I um, I grew up in Bryant, Arkansas, and that was always a blessing. I was always surrounded by my family. My mom made it a appointment in my life. She did me in church. She did me in VBS. I mean, Yes, me I'm Sarah. Yes, Sarah good. Sarah did good. She did, she did awesome. She always had us in church. It was a great experience, but I wouldn't say it was my own faith. Like I learned the stories and learned everything like that. Just like a lot of people in the Bible built do. They go to these things. They learn stories in VBS, but you have to make it your own faith. Yeah. That's very important. And so whenever I was eight years old, that's when I put it upon myself, that like, okay, I recognize that I am a center in need of a savior. And that's whenever I fully trust in the Lord Jesus. And from that point, the Lord just worked in miraculous ways. Whether it was
in like my younger stage of where I was growing, I was reading the gospels is like, I didn't really invest my time in my younger stage to like, invest in like the old scripture and really interpret what it means in my life. And so finally, at that point, I was like, okay, this is like what I want to do. So I went in studying and it all didn't make sense. I mean, I was like nine and ten years old, like I was like, man, this is like Jesus. Awesome. I ease that. Yeah. No, that's so great because I literally remember when the first time, like really like actually trying to read my Bible and stuff, I had one of the, I guess all of them were like that. Well, maybe not this one, but where it has the four columns. Yeah. And I was always taught, you know, read left from right. So it was like in the beginning. And then it was like, it was just weird because I read it left to right. And then like, I was reading from one column to the other. I know, but just you're trying your best. And you want to learn, like you want to learn so much, but like at the same time, you're like, I don't even know what to how to read it. Yes. But and that's how I grew up until I was around 13 to 14
years old. I moved to Valonia, Arkansas. That's kind of what set the stage for me. I had an older brother. And I kind of looked up to him throughout my stages of my life. I mean, he was an example for me. He's a Christian. I mean, he went through his salvation and he's just great for me. But moving through the stages of life, I just hit some valleys in my faith to where I was putting things above him. So I played sports and high school, I played sports in younger years. And it's like these things are good things. And this is how I like to say, like, school's a great thing, sports is a great thing. When it becomes your idol and it becomes everything that you're chasing in life, yeah, it's dead. Like that's not how well we're how we're called to live. Right. That's not how we're called to fulfill Christ's mission on earth for us. And so I think that's what hurt me the most in my younger stages is that I just held those things on a pedestal. And I didn't look at it as a priority in all of those things. And so growing up through that, and when I got to high school, man, the Lord just moved him right. I was like, I was a freshman. And whenever I first met you, which is crazy, the thing now blows my mind because I look back and I'm like, what do you
mean? You were like literally like two years younger than me? I know. It was just crazy. It is I mean, I was friends with Dawson and like that whole group. And I think you kind of just got sucked up in there. I was just because you were the only freshman that ever hung out with us. Absolutely. Absolutely. But I mean, the Lord blessed me in that situation through so many ways. I mean, y'all were such strong and so strong in those faith. And y'all just had that y'all were a pillar for me, if I mean honest, like I think of like time mills, I think of brave, I think of you, I think of Tyler, like I think of these people. They held that standard that I wanted to live like because I saw y'all live in y'all's faith. And I was like, I want to do that, right? I want to live my life like that. So that was really strong in my high school years. And then sophomore year, I had that my freshman year, sophomore year, y'all left. But yeah, y'all were gone. And so I was like, okay, like, who do I look up to now? Right. And so my sophomore year was really hard for me, because I was performing well in my sport. And it was still on a pedestal at this point
in my life. And whenever that wouldn't go well, well, I found myself in a state of life that I didn't really know what to do with like I was really, I wouldn't say to press, but like I was really upset at times with like how I was living and what I was doing. And I just couldn't find my step because I didn't have that friend that I was with that was keeping me to that standard. It was like my own will and actions in my own passions to believe upon that. And so as we're moving through sophomore year, you know, I'm living, I'm don't a church, I'm in my faith and I'm in the Bible, but like I'm just not diving into my world like I want to be. Like I feel like I was called to be. Yeah. And so we moved to junior year. It's my uni junior year summer. It was super summer 2024. But it's just think that that was, which is the thing to say that was so long ago. Two years ago. I know that is crazy. But I still remember the date. I had Brady Ushery as my staffer. I love Brady. Anyways, I had him as my staffer and he just poured in
to me in so many ways. And it was June 27th at the night service. I still remember in life. With the dates. You said receipts. I was like, I had it. I was ready. I'm so I love this just the Lord worked in so many ways in this. And you know, I'm sitting there the first night. I just felt something that was on my heart. I shouldn't know what to do with it. I was like, I know my salvation. I know that Jesus down on the cross have saved me from my sins. I know that. But until June 27th, I didn't have it down about what the Lord was telling me to do. And so I've never heard of rededitation and rededitation. People like, they mits it up with salvation. They mits it up with repentance, but it's just outward repentance that you're going to say, I was living this way. And I know I'm safe. But now I'm going to live this. I like the way that you put that. Because I think that a lot of people misconstrued like the way that like literally whenever we say rededication, it's literally like you said, like an outward repentance of being like, okay, I'm coming back to the Lord. I walked away for this season, but I'm back and I'm ready.
And it allows people to support you in that. Because when you're outward about it, they're like, okay, I want to help him in his faith, right? I don't want to like, I want to guide him in that or like mentors. That's where it comes into play. But yeah, that's how I always looked at it. And until June 27, I didn't know what it was. And then the pastor did a great job of explaining it. And my heart was pounding like out of my chest. I was like, I mean, I know exactly what I need to do. So I went downstairs and I found Brady. And I'm literally bawling at this point because I'm like, the Lord is just like, his spirit literally fell on me at night. Well, I just felt it. And it was just such a cool moment because I knew Brady, I don't know if he was part of that group that I looked up to. And to see him pour into me and me have a talk with him about things that are going on in my life and how I want to turn away from these things and move to what God has really in store for me. It was really special. And it was a really special moment for me and Brady. And through that, I just like re-decade out of outward repented of my sins. And since that moment, I mean, I was a senior high school and I was living from my faith. I was sharing it with my friends. I was on fire for the Lord. And that also presented moments where I was able to speak at friendship
at home when I say nights. Jake gave me that special opportunity. And I'm very thankful for that. Because that also brought me to where I am today. Now that I'm the gateway. Honestly, yeah, it was, it was awesome. Jake just opened that door and that made it to where I'm the intern there now. And so through those moments, the Lord had placed like, well, I felt was a calling to ministry on my life. Yeah, I still had sports. I still had other things. And I was like just trying to figure out what, what am I called to do? Like am I called to continue this sport in college and glorify God through that? Because at this point, the baseball wasn't the pedestal. God was the pedestal. And God was also the priority in each other, priority in my life. And so I really kept that to a standard or after I, you know, repented. And so within that, I was just like discerning like what am I called to do? And after my senior season, baseless seeing that I went on a couple of visits to some baseball schools, trying to figure out when it's like a small G2, I went to Henderson State. And I was just trying to figure out what is the Lord calling me to do? And it came to this past year's super summer to where Ed Newton was speaking about ministry. And I was like, I mean, there's nothing else that I feel like I feel
like it's disobedient, honestly, for me to do anything else besides ministry. Right. And so through that, I stood up, walked back, Gavin Vest was my shout, Gavin, if you ever see this, Gavin Vest was my staffer. And I found him and I was like, dude, there's just nothing better for me and nothing more fulfilling than to live out that called ministry in my life. And so I had a conversation with him, Jake was super excited to see like, dude, I've seen this in you. I think it's all the time. And that's probably why he gave you those opportunities. It probably was. But I love Jake. I'm super thankful for him. He's awesome. But he was super excited for me. And I got bet, you know, to Valonia. And I was trying to figure out my net steps. I had the University of Art and Soul in my list. I had washed all bad to some of the list and just other options. But what I fully invested my time in a fellow with the law was called me was to Faveville. And something that I want to say about Faveville is that Cross Church was so good to me. They had the, they called the dream team as much as college staffers. But I found some really, really great friends that built me up along the way while I was Faveville. And so my first semester college in Faveville,
I mean, it was great. I mean, I was serving with my community. I was doing thanks for them. I was doing thanks for my church. I was involved. And it was a great thing for me to keep my eyes set on Christ, even in a place that can seem so dark like Faveville Art and Soul and a place that can be full of temptations. Like that was my goal was to be able to get in a community to where I felt like we as a group are door fine Christ together. And I still felt, I don't know, I still felt like the Lord had more in store. I was like, this Faveville can't be all that there is to my ministry. I knew I felt that calling. I knew I felt that passion. Yet I was like, there's got to be something more like that can't be all there is. Yeah. And so I was like in this season of life to where I was struggling with the sin. And I was like, Lord, like, how do I get out of this? Lord, how do I return to you in this? And so there was one night and I remember this video of Lee. And I'm even not sure about this in my sermon this week. So hopefully no one sees this thing. Did a spoiler. But basically I was, it was late at night. And I'm struggling with this sin. And I'm like, okay, how do I break this? And so I'm like, don't run Faveville campus. It's beautiful.
I was like, what's going on around? And so I got on my dorm. And then as soon as I'm about to turn left, I was like, wait, there's a Bible in my car. Like just a random thought. And now it was my partner. I was just to the right. And so I just turn around. I sprint to my truck. And I'm like, I type in the code or whatever. Open my Bible. And the first thing I point to is Jeremiah one. And Jeremiah one four three 10 talks about Jeremiah's called a ministry. Talks about I'm feeling unworthy and feeling too young to be a prophet for Christ. But Christ says he's gonna put his words into Jeremiah for him to speak to the nation. And I was like, I hear you, God. Like I hear you. I hear you. I hear you. And then oh, it was so funny. Because then the next passage I turned to was Joel 2, verse 12, where he's talking about return to me with weeping morning. And I will meet you with care and grace. And I was like, also, or that, also, or that. And so, okay, God. I was like, I know. I was like, God, you're just doing miraculous things. And so I was like, okay, I feel this time of ministry. And I feel like this, this is how I'm going to break this inside of what I was in and the shame that I was stuck in. Because I mean, sometimes we feel that.
Sometimes we feel the weight of sense. Sometimes we feel the way of shame. But we just can't sit in that, right? We just can't sit in that. And when we. That's k-a-c-h-a-v-a.com code fitness. It's a divots of a father that's going to tear and meet us where we are. I think that's what the Lord just gave me the confidence. And it's like, you don't have to sit in that, because we have a Lord that gives that. And we can give that to him. Right. And I think it's so important to like really like whenever we are struggling with like certain sin cycles or like certain sins in our lives that, you know, maybe we struggle to lay down just understanding that the moment that we truly just set our gaze upon Jesus, like he's going to take care of that. Like you literally just have to set your gaze so close to Jesus. And like anytime that maybe like temptation pops up, it's literally a media of like, I'll repeat this, I'm getting going. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Like I literally, I ain't doing it today. I'll just walk away from it. That's right. And just look to the blood. Yeah, absolutely. No, that's so good. That's so good. So after that moment, to where I felt the Lord called me, now I read that scripture, I was like, okay, now what do I do now?
I feel this call, I felt the call to ministry. Now I know you're calling me to put to action about what you're calling me to do. And I'm like, well, I do know a youth pastor is pretty cool and since Jordan saw I was like, oh, Jay, Jay hunter on the phone. So like it was within the next week. And I'd prayed and I discern that like the spirit was telling me that like you need to home, like their students need to pour into others people that you need to have a relation with to give the gospel to. And so through that, I on a phone call with Jake and he was like, yeah, what's up? And I was like, dude, like I have a burning passion to bring what I have to the table in ministry and really pour into students. And I was like, is there an opportunity that our friendship needs like absolutely. And so last time where I found my place now is that now I'm the youth in turn and now I have so many avenues to where I'm pouring into students and not I have Sunday Bible studies with high schoolers. And it's like an awesome experience because I know where I was at, where I was going through the hills and valleys, but now I can help my brother in Christ or even my sister Christ that's struggling with those things I can be there for them now.
Because I'm in a place of ministry where I can help them with that. Love that. Yeah. And so it was just and Jake, I mean, Jake always knew that like I was he'd solid in me and he was like, dude, you just gotta recognize it. He's like just figuring out yourself. Yeah. And I had, I felt like I had to walk through those things to where I had to walk through trials. I had to walk through these things. The Lord taught me so much in that to bring me back to here to where now I'm answering. Now I'm, he's creating, he's so many doors. Like he really has. And so it's been awesome. That it's crazy. It's crazy. Because I was sitting over here. I'm like, dang, that was like four years of just the Lord really just. Yeah. And just so many ways and so many unexpected ways. And he answered more than I could, I couldn't imagine me being back home in internet friendship. Whenever I was those stuck on baseball, I was so stuck on everything of life. I know. And like even just sitting here talking to you, it's like there's a noticeable difference, like a noticeable change. Like the confidence that you have in this like goal to share the gospel is so admirable because so many
people, they really just want to get their name out there. Like they just want to like, you know, like they want my minister, my like everything. But like you can tell that you have such a like genuine spirit about it. And so like it's just been really cool to like, I guess from a distance, like just watch you grow and not. And that's what like I noticed even through like social media, just like the things that you're doing. I'm just like, I'm just, I'm blown away because I'm just like, and it's just, it all comes down to like the Lord just once a yielded vessel. Yeah, absolutely. And that's what you gave. It just took, I mean, I've been reading Isaiah. And it just, he gave his full yes on the table. And Isaiah said, and he said, here I am, God send me. And it's like, that's what I derived from because it took, it did take my full yes. It took me, God calling me to move my feet into me, actually doing that and being obedient in that, in that fact, God changed like, he changed my life. He changed my avenue, he changed my career, he changed my story. Like that's what he did when I fully gave that to him. I think just
moved in credible ways. I just love like you talked about like sports specifically because I think that that's a very big like, like pressing issue nowadays is like people want to make a name for themselves and like sports. And they come to the point where they found their identity in it. Right. And so how would you say that like you really like was like, okay, Lord, like whatever it is, just have it all like even if it means I can't play baseball anymore. Yeah, that's good. I, it took a hard moment because if I think back to the time I started playing baseball to right before I started my senior season, it was all like a portion of my life, a portion of most of my heart was all four baseball. That was my pedestal. It was like, how should I be the greatest baseball player? It wasn't how I could be the greatest disciple, right? It wasn't how I should live out of his mission, right? It wasn't like that. And like, here's what it took. I just came broken.
Because I came broken to him because I had lived so long not having him on the pedestal. And then finally when I gave it to him, like my senior season was one of the better ones I had. I was the happiest I've ever been, most joyful. I didn't have any pressure. I felt it was just, it was God's, like it was for God's glory. It wasn't. So I actually go to this college. It wasn't so I could bat this certain number, right? It wasn't about that. It was about how am I going to improve if I got in these situations? How am I going to show that to my teammates and the other team? Well, I want people to notice that crisis in me. Like, it's not that's what it was about for me. Definitely my senior year, I would say, is when I was just like, God, I can't do this. Like, I know the threats it put on me, my freshman through junior year. I know how rough it was. They're like, God, I just can't do this alone. That's what it's all about. Yeah. Love that. So would you say that like it took like sort of like a dynamic shift of just being like, I guess because you touched on it earlier, we said that like the moment that you like took sports off
of the pedestal and like put God on the pedestal, would you say that it just took that like shift of just like, I'm going to seek the Lord first and then like let everything else follow. Yeah, absolutely. But it's like once I put God on the pedestal, like school baseball, God was the priority in those right. He slid to like where he was like top five. He slid to the number one spot. Like it wasn't just I was playing baseball. No, I was playing baseball for God. Like I was playing that. He gave me the gifts to play baseball into glorifying and in that. So that was kind of what I learned most three that like that's just and that really helped me once I realized that and like once I realized that you really can't do this life alone. Like we're in the world, but I be without Jesus Christ. I know that. I know. I'm like, so that's where if I look back on my life and even these past like even this past year, so where God had me, so where I was stuck in sin, I was stuck in shame. I was stuck being like, what am I supposed to do with my life? So now I have this plan. I had this plan for you. It's not for my own glory. It never will be. It's all for him. So
that's so good corner. Thank you. It's so good. I look like I get emotional just like thinking about just seeing the way of the Lord and I keep saying it, but it's really is true because like I met you at such a like I guess time where you were just like baseball baseball baseball. Like you've always had this joy about you, but like now it's like it's radiant. Like it just glows and it makes me so happy to see the way that the Lord has just worked in you. It's ridiculous. I don't know. Because yeah, I think when we first, my freshman year, I mean, it was baseball. Like that was what I tried to do or find myself in. Like that was what I made my life about. And I mean, I definitely struggled with that myself. Because like I said, I didn't have like my mentors that y'all were in my life. So like then I was like, then if it really is about baseball, now that's all I have. I don't have that friend here to fall on. So that's whenever that's why it's
so important about what happened before my senior season that I just gave it all over. And that's what I had to do to glorify them. And I think it's so like cool the way that the Lord works because I think it truly probably like took us like sort of stepping away. I mean, graduating and like all of that other things to like sort of like allow you to realize that maybe baseball isn't all there is. Right. And so that's good quarter. Thank you. I appreciate that. Good stuff. Well, do you have anything else that you want to add? Oh goodness. There was a lot there. I know. And I'm like, I feel like I should have more questions. But like you really just hit it on the head. Oh, thank you. I appreciate it. Now on the head. Yeah, but that's really all I have. I mean, that's just the biggest ways. And I know he works in so many smaller ways that I don't see. Yeah. But like those are the ways that I've seen him just miraculously changed my life just to glorify him. So that's awesome. Yeah. Well, it's been a blessing. Thank you. I think for having me on. I really
appreciate it. I love this literally anytime. And I'm like, okay, see you in four years. So you'll be back on here and talking. But I appreciate it. I really am like that. That was good. And I'm very like thankful that you came here and like shared your testimony because I do think that it's going to touch a lot of lives because a lot of people are still stuck in that cycle of like shame and guilt and not really understanding that they are worthy of the calling not because we're worthy, but because he's worthy. Yeah. And so that's right. Or we're worthy through him. There we go. Yes. Yeah. But anyway, so that being said, is there any piece of advice that you would leave people with? Oh, goodness. If I could think of one thing, I would just say, you gotta give it over. You gotta give it to him. Does that's whenever he will take the reign of your life. And that's whenever you'll be the most joyful, have the most hope. And you'll be at the most peace in your
life is when you give that all over to him. That's what I would say. Period. That's good. All right. Well, with that being said, that wraps up this episode of the Come As You Are podcast with Carter Brown. And so I will see you all. Don't really know when, but we'll figure it out. So bye guys. Bye. Thank you for tuning into this week's episode of Come As You Are. I'm so grateful that you chose to spend the time to listen to the testimonies of my friends and family. The Lord is so faithful and a present help in time of need. And we have seen that through the eyes of other people's stories. Maybe you find yourself in that place right now, searching, wondering, and chasing after something to fill the void that you have inside. I want you to know that you're not alone by any means and that we all have this void and the only way that it can be filled is by Jesus Christ. Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a perfect life, was brutally beaten, then died a sinner's death on a cross. And then he was buried in the tomb. He did all of this for you and he did it for me to save us from the grip of sin in our lives so that we may have forgiveness and be set free.
But the good news is it doesn't end there. Three days later, he rose from the grave, proving that death and hell is defeated in the powerful name of Jesus. And this Jesus wants a relationship with you. He loves you and he wants to set you free from the stronghold of sin, brokenness, and burdens and show you that there is so much more to life. John 3, 16 tells us, forgot so loved the world that he sent his one and only son that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. This verse wraps up the gospel completely. It tells us that God loves the world so much that he sent his one and only son and that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. And he did all of that in just hopes that you would come to him. And how you do that is simply by calling upon his name, admitting that you are a sinner and need a saving and believing in your heart that Jesus rose from the dead three days later. And the Bible tells us that in Romans 10 9, if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from
the dead, you will be saved. And then it goes on to tell us in 2 Corinthians 6 2, for he says, at the acceptable time I listen to you and on the day of salvation I help you, behold now is the acceptable time behold now is the day of salvation. This scripture makes it clear that today is the day of salvation. There is no need to wait whenever the Holy Spirit is tugging at you to come to the Father.
