It's a really sorted story because as he transferred to Tech, he was sued by Cincinnati for breach of contract. There was that whole thing. But this came out yesterday that he has checked himself into a residential treatment program

1:02for a gambling addiction. And I had to go back and read this next sentence several times just to make sure I was seeing this right. Sources say that he made thousands of bets on various sports via a gambling app. And I thought about that because we've talked about it here on the show, hey, especially dudes in college, they've got the apps they are making bets. But let's say you made five bets a week. That'd be 250,000s of bets. And they're talking about in the last few years, I think, is the time frame. Well, I don't think it's out of the question that these guys make a bet or two a day. Yeah, I guess at his case, he must have. I mean, we kind of joke about it. But when Donnie comes in here in the morning, I don't think he's doing it anymore. But remember when I'd say, what'd you bet on yesterday? And he'd say, women's basketball or minor league hockey or something crazy?

2:06I had a couple of puck plays last night. Right. See, a couple, I don't think it's out of the question that you've got kids who are, I don't know, they're waging on three or four or five things a day. And right there, after one year, you're in the thousands. But that line has been so blurred now because it's from the college student. But now we're talking about a student athlete, we're talking about an athlete. And the NCAA is investigating this now because they've changed the rules to the point where they don't allow betting on any college or pro sport. I believe that went into effect three years ago. So going back to when he was in Indiana and 2022, he was a red shirt. It was found that he was betting on Indiana at that point. And you're talking about a kid who's making a lot of money. He was scheduled to make five million this year from Texas Tech.

3:10Crazy, by the way, just insane that that's where we are. But that's the going rate for, you know, starting quarterback at a big four program, it's going to be four, five million dollars. And there's talk now, okay, if he's found guilty of this, that he could face up the 30% in eligibility. And I'm thinking 30, how about 100% right? Because the rule is if you make any sort of wage, you're over $800. Where if you make thousands of bets, you are way over $800. And if it's found you were betting on your own team or against your own team, man, yeah, you're done in college football. And I wonder in going forward to the NFL go, uh, sorry. That's a great question because I think you should be done. But it's a different world out there now. And college and pro sports have embraced gambling platforms.

4:12They, they are sponsors, yeah. And so it's, that's the really weird tiptoe that pro sports and now college sports have been doing for the last few years. Well, we never thought we'd see a pro franchise in Las Vegas. And now we have three and we're about to have four. You know, as soon as the A's get there and the NBA franchise, uh, college programs are sponsored by draft kings and casinos and things like that. So on, on one hand, you, you see these athletes and the message that is being sent is, hey, gamble, we, we endorse it. Your school endorses it, your franchise endorses it. And on the other side, they're being told, no, don't gamble. So I don't really understand the messaging here and I see how it's confusing. And I think we've all known for a long time. These kids are very likely gambling a lot more than we realize.

5:15And they're probably gambling on their own teams a lot more than we realize. I just wonder because we always talk about the power of the NCAA. Are they really going to go at him and say, you are ineligible forever from college athletics? Which probably ought, I mean, if you have a history of this that dates back to 2022 and we're talking thousands of bets in the last couple of years and sources say it's on pro in college athletics, then I'm sorry, you are ineligible, what a and some think, well, they, they just put him in this rehab, you know, to make it look good and then they'll get him eligible. I don't know about that. I think this guy has such a problem that Texas tech and said, okay, well, yeah, the first thing you need is help. And I bet they've already written it off as to, man, we're done with this guy. There's no way he's going to be eligible or at least there's a good chance he's going to miss

6:19half the season. But if the NCAA had any bite to him, I would think they would want to set an example and say, this is, this is right out and he's ineligible this year and any year he's done in college athletics. So I'm a little foggy on this and since you're our shows gambler, you in tip sheet, you guys can help me out on this tip sheet more than me, but go ahead. What is currently illegal in college and pro sports? Obviously betting on your own team or a game you're involved in. According to the NCAA, it's any college or pro sport. That's the new rule. So Soresby is sitting around his dorm room. If, if indeed he's in a dorm and not a luxury, I got a sweet house luxury high rise apartment with his buddies who don't play and they've all got their their apps open. And hey, let's let's put some money on the timber wolves nuggets tonight. He can't bet on that. No, he's not supposed to why the NCAA rules.

7:20Why can't he? Well, because that's blurring the line of what's to say he could go from the NBA to, well, let's go something that I really know about and that's big 12 action. Well, why don't they just draw the line? Where if you're a college football player, you can't bet on college football games, but you can bet on the NHL or the NBA because it doesn't have anything to do with our sports. I was just saying, yeah, I guess that may be a better way to do it. Why don't they just draw that line and let these guys do something that is legal now? Yeah, that's interesting. I've never really heard it presented that way. I guess that would just be the old argument of if you're doing that, then you would take, yeah, you would take that next step and dang, I've had a lot of losses. I know we're beating rice this week, and I see that arguing with us. Yeah, but don't you know that a large percentage of college athletes across all sports

8:22have a fan duel or draft Kings account? Yeah, I mean, they've got to not in their name, but they've got to. Yeah, I think it's so normalized for them. They don't see that what's the problem? I'm not betting on us. I'm betting on the NBA playoffs. It's no big deal. I'm doing what all my buddies are doing. All my buddies are doing it, and hey, maybe I'm not getting five million a year. I'm a baseball player that gets his books taken care of. So yeah, I'm going to get in on some of the action. I feel bad for the kid, because I mean, maybe he really does have a problem. And I think I heard this yesterday that he may be an example of a very widespread problem that not just athletes, but youngsters, college kids have a major problem with this, just because it's been so normalized for him. A lot of them started doing this in high school. Yeah, what are the rules for our pro athletes?

9:23Can Dac bet on the Timberwolves Nuggets game? That's a good one. I'm not sure about that. I don't know either. I know I know Dac can't bet on a Cowboys game. The NFL wouldn't like that. And that's no or any sort of NFL game. Right. But can he bet on? Can you go to the prediction markets and that's a good one, because this has been around for a while. Those guys go from college to pro. I'm sure they keep their app, but I know that they are widely discouraged from doing this when they get in the league. Do not, you know, make any sort of bet. Don't mess with gambling. But I don't know if they certainly don't stress it like they used to. It's a different world now than it was heck, even 10 years ago. NFL players are allowed to bet on other leagues. They just can't do it from the facilities. That's what got James and Ryan's trouble. That's right. Good game. Yeah, okay. And then we have that story about Colts players.

10:23Was it that were that they found out we're betting from the facility? I think it was the Colts players are Washington. And that's also like he said, we got James and Williams of the Lions in trouble. Was he was betting his facility? That's right. As far as college players go, it's interesting. With the rule changes made in 2023, if you bet on obviously on your own sport at your own school, you can face permanent loss of eligibility. If you wager on your own sport at another school, you could lose 50% of half of a season, half of a season of eligibility. But the other stuff really kind of depends like if you're betting on pro sports, it depends on how much you were wagering. That's why I said the $800. Yes. So it can vary depending on how much you bet. Yeah. Man, it's very confusing out there. It is very confusing. I think those lines are blurred and I bet this is not the only kid we're going to hear about over the next six months of, okay, here's another player who has placed hundreds of bets and we have proof of it.
