Muse the Seal's Epic Journey

0:00On April 18th, a young gray seal pup named Muse made headlines by swimming over 120 kilometers from Cornwall all the way to the west. Coast of Wales found the hydrated and skinny on the rocks at St. Brian's Bay in Pimbroke Shire back on December 11th, he got rescued and nursed back to health by. RSPCA folks before being set free. Turns out, just four days before they spotted him in Wales, divers had checked him out at Port Giverne in Cornwall. That was one epic trek for a little guy, and it left him drained, underweight, and may be fighting a respiratory bug. RSPCA staff in Somerset took him in and under their care, Muse tripled his size, hitting 41.5 kilograms. Ellie West called it a fascinating tale, thrilled to see him strong enough to hunt fish and hold his own with other seals. On April 8th, they released Muse at a Devon Beach with five other seal pups, all named after musicians like Jimmy Hendrix, Lewis Capaldi, and Run, DMC.

1:01Wildlife supervisor Ryan Walker praised the team effort from rescuers, vets, and volunteers that got them all beach ready. If you spot a stranded seal, keep your distance, leash the dog, and call it in if it looks rough. Moms often leave pups alone to forage, but distress. Means help time. Things like Muse remind us, wildlife bounces back with a little human backup.
