Murder Conviction Overturned: Field's Retrial Ordered

0:00On April 16, Benjamin Field, the former church warden convicted of murdering University lecturer Peter Farquhar just had his life sentence, overturned by the Court of Appeal. Back in 2019, a jury found him guilty of killing the 69-year-old in Maid's Morton, Buckingham Shire, in 2015, slapping him with a minimum of 36 years. Prosecutors argued, feel Gaslit Farquhar, into thinking he was going crazy, spiking his whiskey and slipping him tranquilizers to stage a suicide. Accident, all to snag the guy's house in cash, Field's team pushed back hard at a hearing in March, saying there was zero proof Farquhar was tricked or forced into the booze or meds after the criminal case's review commission sent the case up last year. Three top judges ruled the original jury got bad instructions, basically yanking away their call on whether Farquhar drank that whiskey willingly so. They quashed the conviction and called for a retrial.
