Mum's Drink-Drive Conviction Despite Panic Drinks

Cops tracked her home 30 minutes later, where she failed a roadside breath test at 70 micrograms per 100 milliliters of breathway, over the 35 legal limit and later evidential at 58. Mehmet claimed she had not been drinking before the crash, blimming the truck driver for speeding and being rude, which scared her into driving home. She said she changed into pajamas and only sipped the large vodka with Fonsa Orange to calm her nerves after arriving. Earlier that night, she admitted to a family meal with drinks around 9.30 p.m. before bed. Doctors pointed out her story did not add up, noting she went for a late-night drive to her friends despite being tired, then allegedly boozed up, post-crash.

The court rejected her evidence for inconsistencies, like switching from wine to vodka and not mentioning the home drinks to police initially, they convicted her anyway. Mehmet now faces a 15 month driving ban, a 180 pound fine, 722 pounds and costs, plus a surcharge, a tough hit. That underscores why courts dig deep into these excuses.
