It packs 16 velocity-sensitive pads, built-in sequencing and sampling, audio capture from its microphone, battery power for up to 5 hours, and a price tag of $399. This grabbing-go machine keeps the hands-on feel that made the original MPC a game-changer. The MPC line kicked off in 1988 with the MPC 60, turning sampling, sequencing, and drum programming into something intuitive and physical. Producers could grab snippets from soul records, jazz, or street sounds, and flip them into fresh beats with their own swing and timing. That shift-empowered bedroom creators, making the record-crate feel like a full instrument. In black music, the MPC sparked huge sonic changes across hip-hop, R&B, and Neal Soul. Icons like Jay Dilla added human groove, with leaning drums and soulful loops.
