MP Turner Suspended: Labour's Justice System Crisis

0:00On March 31st, labor MP Carl Turner, from Hull East, just got his party whip, suspended for slamming Keir Starmer in number 10 over plans to slash, jury trials. The move came after he spoke out against new judge-only courts from the Ministry of Justice, calling them a bad idea that could wreck the justice, system. This blew up partly from an interview Turner did with Jody McIntyre, the activist who ran against labor's Jess Phillips in Birmingham Yardley last year. McIntyre pushed back on labor's Gaza Stance, but Phillips held on by just 700 votes amid some tense election night drama. Turner knows the system inside out. He was once charged with handling stolen goods, but the case got tossed for lack of evidence. He claimed at least 60 fellow MPs were ready to rebel against the bill, though he held back and abstained on the second reading, hoping for tweaks. Later, he's been firing shots at number 10 for months, accusing them of briefing against him, and nicknaming Top 8 Morgan McSweeney as McSwindle.

1:01Turner even hinted online that McSweeney faked a phone theft and said he was already on a conduct warning from the whips. Now without the whip, Turner's future hangs in the balance. He's talked about triggering a by-election if pushed too far, shaking up labor's unity just, as they settle into power.
