It was like Armageddon over at Brookvale, overhead of the footy. The wet weather is going to hang around a day unfortunately on what say chilly day. So it might be time to get out those winter woolies because that weather is really starting to cool down. Coming up this morning, Chris Bowen blaming you for this crisis as service stations in Sydney start limiting their fuel. Economist warned the government against and above inflation wage rise. A terrorist to be released despite police to keep him locked up in jail. While in sport, daily cherry evils, well he copped it didn't he, but he had the last laugh at Brookvale Ival.

Well, I want to start the show today by thanking each and every one of you for the emails, the messages and the phone calls you've made this week. Because I think quite Australians aren't just listening to 2GB anymore. You are reaching out in big, big numbers to voice your anger. To express your anxiety, to express your frustration.

2:06At the position we currently find ourselves in because of an insipid federal government that doesn't seem to care, while they enjoy their privileged lives in Canberra. This radio station has become a microphone for you. Now listeners and the taxpayers of this country who work their back sides off to support their families, you've had enough. The overwhelming message to the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the likes of Chris Bowen and Jim Charmers is one of desperation because millions of you, you need their help. Australians are at breaking point. We've heard from retirees this week who are choosing between a trip to the chemist or a trip to the supermarket. We've heard from tradies who are watching their entire week's profit vanish into the fuel tank. We've heard from farmers who don't know whether or so they went to crops or sell up. These people are just open-line callers. They're our neighbours.

3:06And this isn't just politics to you. It's your life. It's your kids' future. But what do we get from these elected representatives in Canberra? Nothing. Anthony Albanese keeps reminding us about his humble beginnings, yet now he holds the highest office in this country and what he's not prepared to help those people who are on the brink. Chris Bowen continues to suggest our fuel supplies guaranteed and it's the fault of hardworking Australians for panic buying the petrol and diesel we need to keep going. And then there's Jim Charmers, the treasurer who won't even consider a cut to the fuel excise, even though he's reaping the rewards from this crisis with an extra $300 million a month entering government coffers from the GST on fuel. They won't listen to the experts. They won't listen to the leading economist. They won't even listen to the people they represent. To prove my point, I want to remind you about the open-line call yesterday that we took from a single mother who lives in Anthony Albanese's electorate.

4:13Outer at Croyton Park was on the verge of tears while pouring her heart out to me about the pressure she's under at the moment. And I think we all choked up listening to the call. This is what Anna said to us yesterday. My heart's thumping making this phone call honestly. I'm really emotional at the moment and I know I'm not just speaking for myself. I know I'm speaking for so many people who are suffering at the moment and my plea is to Anthony Albanese. What are you doing? Like honestly, what are you doing? I recently spent one and a half thousand dollars moving my kid tonight. I'm a single mom to a cheaper place in Sydney to save 175 a week only for that money not to go in my pocket at all. What's going on? These ridiculous fuel prices, the cost of groceries, cost of electricity. I'm just exhausted. I'm sitting here every day thinking, when is Albanese going to announce? I'm going to cut the fuel exercise. I'm going to somehow really do something for all of us. And I just hope he's listening to this phone call. Stop with your silly meetings. You know, stop. You know, just do something now.

5:24It's heartbreaking, isn't it? Well, what do you say to a single mom who's struggling? Well, the Prime Minister was asked about Anna's call in question time yesterday. And I want you to remember, yes, he's the Prime Minister, but Anthony Albanese is also Anna's local member. Have a listen to the question from Alison Pennfold, who's the National's Member for Line and the Prime Minister's pathetic response. My question is to the Prime Minister, Anna, a single mom from Corden Park in the Prime Minister's electorate told 2GB this morning, and I quote, I was driving my kids to their sports carnival today, panicking, driving past five fuel stations with no fuel. What do I do if there's no fuel? What if my kids get sick and I can't pick them up? In quote, when will the Prime Minister finally take action to ensure fuel gets to his own constituents? Call to the Prime Minister. I think the Member for Line for her question, and indeed, the comments from Anna in Corden Park, of course, are real because people out there are facing a difficult circumstance.

6:42The government acknowledges that. We don't come in here and say there's not a war. We don't come in here and say there aren't issues of distribution. What we do is come in here and put forward practical plans to make a difference, and that is the responsible thing to do. Practical plans. Have you ever heard a more tone deaf response to a single mother who calls a radio station like 2GB while on the verge of tears to blip pleat for help? Anthony Albanese, her local member, the Prime Minister, effectively slammed the door in her face and said, bad luck, Anna. Prime Minister, you should be ashamed of yourself. That this is a career politician who made a promise to the Australian people that no one would be left behind. He said it on election night 2022. No one will be left behind because we should always look after the disadvantaged and the vulnerable.

7:44Prime Minister, go until that to Anna at Corden Park. Go until that to the young couple in Western Sydney who just handed back the keys to their first home because the interest rates have stripped them of their dignity. Go until that to the small business owner who spent 30 years building a legacy only to watch it crumble under the weight of soaring energy bills and red tape. Anthony Albanese loves talking about the light on the hill, doesn't he? But for millions of Australians, that light has disappeared. Because of a Labor government that prefers ideology over reality and photo ops over policy. They're insulated in that Canberra bubble. They're cushioned by taxpayer salaries. All the while, the very people who pay those salaries are being forced to skip meals or use the money they saved but fuel in the car. My question to the Prime Minister this morning, no. My question to the Australian people is this. How can a political leader stand on a stage and claim to be a man of the people? And four years later, watch those same people drown in a cost of living crisis, a fuel crisis and an energy crisis.

8:49Anthony Albanese, he campaigned on a promise of a better future. Well, how's that going for you, ladies and gentlemen? How's that going for you? Now, when it comes to the fuel crisis, as you can appreciate, there are a whole range of stories across the country today. And I just want to pinpoint a couple of them. The telegraph and the Australian reporting today that our farmers are warning the nation is racing towards catastrophe due to dwindling fertilizer supplies and no immediate government rescue plan raising the prospect of multi million dollar crop losses and rising food prices and shortages. Then there's the construction sector, the New South Wales construction sector, bracing for major delays on housing and infrastructure projects as industry leaders want Australia's fuel shortages, causing the cost of building to skyrocket. The service stations themselves are starting to limit fuel with a northern beaches shell branded Viva retailer telling customers it's capping petrol and diesel to 50 litres per vehicle. All this at a time and in our MA research shows more than half of Australian motorists have cut back on driving over the last month.

10:54Yeah, we've got an energy, energy minister virtually saying, oh, what crisis? Well, if Chris Bowen told me it was raining outside, I'd have to check. And that's the reason why no one believes him. Because what he's saying publicly does not reflect what's happening at service stations across this country. He's embarrassing himself and he's embarrassing the federal government. Meantime, a lot of you have stopped me this week in my travels and said, Mark, what are you hearing? What you follow this a lot closer than us? When is this war going to end in the Middle East? Well, what I can tell you today is that the two in flowing continues between the United States and Iran, the negotiations are continuing. Donald Trump is warning the regime better get serious soon and agree to a peace plan, or we'll just keep blowing them away. A direct quote from President Trump, he's had a crack at Australia as well, another crack. But look, let's face it, Iran can't keep fighting the firepower from the Americans and President Trump needs to get a deal done because of the oil crisis. So let's hope that deal is going to happen sooner rather than later for the sake of the world and for giving what we're going through at the moment.

12:01So that's that's the latest on the fuel crisis. Now what else have we got for you today? Okay, speaking of the war, this, this is a story that I read this morning and thought where the reason why we have this war in this conflict at the moment is to destroy the biggest sponsor of terrorism and a regime that's been funding ISIS, Hezbollah and the Houthis. These terrorists, sadly, are living amongst us in Australia. In fact, Liam Mendes has a concerning story in the Australian today reporting a terrorist who researched missiles for Islamic State and believes he was incarcerated in a system that punishes Muslims for what they believe will be released from prison today. So can the authorities guarantee our safety? Well, the answer to that question is clearly no given. Has only participated in de-radicalization programs in the belief they would reduce his prison sentence. Now, let me give you some background on this grub. Zahab was arrested in country, New South Wales, little place called Young back in 2017. He was jailed for nine years for designing guided missiles and laser warning devices for Islamic State.

13:13Government agencies have identified significant risk in the release of this bloke who's linked by marriage to one of these ISIS brides, which makes him susceptible to returning to the conduct that led him to be drawn into the IS and has not taken responsibility for his action. The AFP believes there remains a risk that Zahab may engage in conduct that constitutes a terrorist act or conduct supportive of a terrorist act in a foreign country. Now, that's the case. Why is this scumbag being released? The authorities are sprucing the fact that they'll be monitoring him closely and they'll have oversight of his internet use, but that's not good enough. These terrorists are intent on destroying Western democracies and killing Jews, which we saw at Bondi Beach on December 14. Nine years in jail for a terrorism offense and this grub gets out today, am I the only person who finds this totally unacceptable? And I'll go into a bit more detail on this particular case and it's with thanks to Liam Mendez from the Australian who, good on your learn for highlighting this.

14:18I mean, terrorists just walking back into the community at a heightened time of anxiousness and a fear for people safety. It's just unbelievable. A few other stories that will cover this morning are the social media ban in this landmark court decision in the United States. Talking about this yesterday because the fine that's been imposed on method could open the floodgates for even more civil cases against these tech giants. And there's some interesting comments today from the lawyer who headed up the case against matter in the United States and it's to do with our social media ban here in Australia. Out of interest, if you're a parent, how's it working at your place? Are the kids actually abiding by this social media ban or are kids doing what they inevitably do and find a way around these restrictions? I'd love to hear from you this morning. I suppose you'd call it a David and Goliath battle. You're trying to lock the front door while the big tech is already inside and sitting at the dinner table with your kids because they are sitting there scrolling on their phone.

15:18If you're a parent, how's the social media ban working at your place? We'll touch on the Albanese government's demand for an above inflation wage increase for almost three million workers, the economists are warning against it. So we'll cover that one for you. Angus Taylor is going to join me the opposition leader and I'll have to ask him about this because Pauline Hansen is all but guaranteed a preference deal with the coalition for the farot by election. So we'll talk to Angus about this more broadly because if we want to get rid of this Labor government federally, well, look, the coalition whether they like it or not, again, a need one nation. So we'll have a closer look at that. There's another story today about the councils in the eastern suburbs will mainly brandwick city council that wants to put in these parking meters at the beaches. Well, I know according to the telegraph a story today, business owners, motorists, residents, even a surf club preparing to fight these plans. Good on them, I say. And you remember this time last week I made mention of the fact that we had the fleet review on Sydney Harbour. That was last weekend. Well, this weekend it's the historic military aeroplanes that will take the skies over Skone and the Hunter Valley.

16:28The warbirds over Skone event will feature a variety of aircraft, including Spitfires, P 40 Kitty Hawks and P 51 Mustangs from all over Australia. So if you're in your military history, you're into aeroplanes. Well, that's the place and the event to be out over the weekend. The warbirds over Skone event, which will run right across the weekend. Now, we turn to sport a bit of breaking news in rugby league before we get going. And if you listen to the continuous call team, you would know this because Mark Piggier Adele floated it prior to the loss of Agus round. He's a great mate of Willie Peters and it was his information that the P N G's were pretty keen on signing the Premiership winning whole K R coach. Well, there is reports this morning suggesting that Willie's got the job. And I think it's a great appointment once it's confirmed because Willie Peters is the coach that everyone wants at the moment given what he's been able to do in the Super League at how Kingston Rovers. So if he does get the job, he's beating out the likes of Brad Arthur, Jason Demetriu, Adrian Lamb, so well done to Willie Peters.

17:35Last night in the NRLG, the Manly supporters, they didn't miss Daily Cherry Evans. I broke foul. Every time he touched the ball there, I was watching Channel 9. I was listening to Matt Thompson and Billy Slater and Andrew Jones in the commentary box. Every time DC, he got boo, boo, it was funny to listen to. But look, he's big enough and strong enough to handle it. And he had the last laugh. The Chucks beat Manly 3316 at Four Pines Park. And with the conditions prior to the game, you sort of expected a bit of a dour affair, but they threw the ball around both sides. And the Siegel scored that try off the second play of the game. So the Roosters won that one last night. I have a Manly 33 to 16. Luke Metcalf makes his return for the Warriors tonight. They're at home to the West Tigers at six o'clock. I'll be back on deck with the continuous call team from seven to broadcast the Derby between the under siege Broncos and the dolphins at Suncorp Stadium. So looking forward to calling that one close game in the AFL last night. But Jolong beat Adelaide by eight points. We've got the Giants in Melbourne tonight to take on Collingwood. 18:40The Soccer Roos played their World Cup warm-up match tonight against Cameroon at a core stadium in Sydney. Good luck to the Aussies. Andrew Keloay, he's back in the starting side for the Waritas in the Super Rugby match against the Brumbies down there in Canberra. The Kings, they won up in the NBL Championship series with game two against Adelaide played tonight. Super netball, the swiffs and the Giants. They're on the road this weekend. 20:51You know what, Mr. Pfizer, Mark, why do they keep voting for these fools, these monkeys? Why? Katie Galliga, foreign minister, wouldn't know what it all means. Bowen, have a look at them. Have a look at them. And Burke, Penny Wong, you just got to have a look at the faces on them and they drive you sick. I'm sorry, mate, I just, and that poor girl yesterday, I wish to go out of those next round, give her a thousand bucks, you know? Yeah, well, Patrick, I got green kids in this fragment of our bloody house, they're all educated, you know? I don't know, mate, I never thought this country, my wildest green, would get this back to the stupid. Sorry, mate. Patrick, don't be sorry, mate, don't be sorry, I just want to listen. But what is, you spoke about the fact that you're a business owner. What is the future look like for your business? Mate, we got property in that and what on the cost of rates and electricity? And I think it'll get to the stage where they're going to make it so difficult, you're going to have to sell the property because you can't afford to repay the land.

21:55The interest on them, you know, it takes all the profit away from your business. Similarly, that is the red tape and the cost of employing someone. They're getting more to that, so they have the people in poor, they're all good people, I'd give them more. The government takes it. Yeah. Patrick, mate, like Annie yesterday, I can just, I can hear it in your voice. You're angry, you're frustrated, you're heartbroken. But I want you to know, Patrick, they're listening in Canberra to these calls. And when the prime minister stands up and gets posed a question by the opposition from a phone call to this radio station, it shows and it highlights that this government to me doesn't give us stuff about Australia. They don't. They don't. They're happy to take their tax payer, funded wages and salaries. They're happy to live their life. They're happy to get picked up in their Comcast. They wouldn't know what the cost of petrol is. When was the last time they pulled in a petrol station? I'll mate wait and out the front of Parliament, ask to pick them up.

22:55Patrick, stay strong, mate. I keep saying it. We're all in it together. Good on you, bud. Thanks for calling through. Toby's at Newport. Morning, Toby. Morning. How are you going, Mark? Good, buddy. I'm, I'm, obviously, I'm getting tired of the cost of living crisis. Absolutely to destroy my family at the moment as we're trying to save money for this and that. But the thing is, I'm getting so tired of seeing just prices from grocery stores go up. Utilities went up in the last six months by 40%. Petrol prices are increasing. Then suddenly the government releases just a new task force that's supposedly going to crack down on it. Three months later, we haven't heard of things. Nothing's being done. A new price has increased. Chicken has suddenly gone through the roof. Eggs have suddenly gone through the roof. And it seems as though while these prices come up, as years go by, nothing comes back down. We just get used to it. And so what do they do? They increase the prices again and again and again. And what's happening is we've got a government who tries to go and say, we'll build a new committee. We'll build a new department of egg finance.

23:56And then suddenly what's the next thing, you know, they're spending out of control. They're spending 96 million dollars on a, on a bomb website. They're spending God knows what on a battery system that doesn't fully work 24 hours a day. There's no, there's no cover and no accountability for the taxpayers money. You look at the NBIS system right now. It's absolutely flawed. You've got people voting the system left and right. And I just, I just wonder, when are we going to get a government that actually discourse on responsibly? And literally cut back on all the money that they're wasting so they can make it easier on the actual taxpayers pocket. Because left writing center and I've heard rumors that they're going to release, you know, literally a tax on when people want to leave money for their kids and things like that. It's just one thing after another. I can't keep up with it. I'm getting so sick of it. Toby, it's a really powerful call you've made. Maiden, the one thing there that you spoke about, you spoke about that task force.

24:57And the thing that blows me away is that we have the coordinator of this task force who has spent the last 10 years in her job as the CEO of the climate council. Whatever it's called, trying to do away with fossil fuels. And what's petrol? It's a fossil fuel. So we've now got somebody in charge of a task force to ensure that all of the service stations get the fuel they need. But that same person has spent the last 10 years trying to get rid of the stuff. It's just how we've reached this point. 131873, the number. These calls are fantastic, ladies and gentlemen. They really are. They're so powerful. And you know what? They're much more powerful than me sitting here speaking to an expert. They're much more powerful than me sitting here talking to a politician. It's the power of the open line. 25:58It's 28 minutes away from 10. I mentioned that I'll catch up with Angus Taylor, the opposition leader in the second hour of the program. He is holding a press conference at the moment in Canberra with Matt Canavan and Bridget McKenzie. He has just announced that he has written to the Prime Minister calling on him to slash the fuel ex-ice. Mr Taylor wants it halved to 26 cents a litre. So we'll ask him about that plan and explore it a little more after the news at 10 o'clock. In the meantime, let's get back to your calls. Stephanie's phone through. Stephanie, good morning to you. Good morning, Mark. For those of us who suffered through the mercifully brief years of the crazed Whitlam socialist government, with its crazed, high-taxing and out of control spending, the spending with Jeff Madd, we thought it would never get worse. Well, the crazed, unhinged socialist communist government in Canberra. There has been very busy for the last couple of years, nuclear bombing this country.

26:58You have to wonder why they have got away with this, with such ease over the last four or so years. I could do no better to answer that. Then to quote a few lines from a letter writer to the Australian last Friday, a Mary Ann Higgins. And she wrote, the years the Liberal Party has been infiltrated, undermined, white-anted, and demoralized by the cowardly, left-leaning Labour light. I'd say Labour had the Liberal modrists who have been destroying the identity of the hard era, ten places strong, courageous leadership and clear unwavering conservative politics. She said, our once pristine, prosperous, and independently sovereign country has been destroyed and sold out by Labour's destructive, renewable stance. And you do wonder, Mark, and this mould, of course, in Canberra, are a million country miles in front of what we thought

28:00could never happen again, the Wittland government. But this is also a question that has been answered by Frank Kulmsberg from Queensland, same paper, same day, just saying briefly, could someone remind Angus Taylor that his job as a leader of the opposition is to confront the dangerous socialist government? And as others in that same paper wrote, the Liberals have crab walked to the left and are more aligned with Labour and the Teals. So this once-beloved country of ours is quintessentially Australian country that we fought so hard for during those war years to keep us going in that same manner. It is blown apart. And I don't know that we can ever come back to what we were. If we do come back, it's going to take somebody stronger than Angus Taylor. Matt Canavan, some hope, Bridget McKenzie and Angus Taylor came out after that South Australian election said, coming after you, Pauline Hanson.

29:01She's not the enemy, actually. It's the crazed socialist communist mob in Canberra, which have killed my country. And someone's got to get out there soon and start doing their damnedest, get it back, you've got all of us out here behind you. But for God's sake, get a leader into that Liberal Party, shout it out every single day up until that next election. Angus Taylor, we can't hear you. Thank you, Stephanie, for your call. But I'm just so underspearing with all the calls I hear coming into you and all these different situation people are finding themselves in. I think if I had the ability, I would like to organize Australia-wide, Australia rises up against the Labor government because they're doing nothing.

30:04And we could march, or we'd probably be too old much. Some of us would probably quite happy just to meet in the park, sitting in our wheelchair or whatever. But to hear the way Albanese treated Anna, her own electorate, he treated not only Anna with absolute contempt. He has insulted the intelligence of all of us, and treated us all with contempt. I just wish someone could organise a protest demonstration in a park or if they want to walk the streets they could. But I think it's time he needs to see this in mass. Yeah, I think Heather, I totally appreciate where you're coming from. But the problem is, what is it, a chief? They've proven in recent weeks, they don't listen, they don't care. And the only way to get rid of this mob is to vote against them at the next election, which is two years away. So it's the harsh reality of the position we're in at the moment. We've just been told by police that they've retrieved the boat and have begun investigation. So we'll have more details to come as we get them. So an abandoned boat found with no one on it, given it's abandoned, on the Paramata River near Irmington. Look, I'm just been sitting here thinking during the commercial break. Your stories are so important. But at the same time, we need to find ways in which we can help people at the moment. So I think on Monday, we might see if we can track down a financial expert. Just on some ways in which people might be able to save a few dollars. That way they can afford to put fuel in the car and can afford the grocery. So even someone like Effie Zahos on Channel 9.

32:06So we'll see if we can track down Effie and have a chapter on Monday. Just some tips and tricks for you at the moment because as you can hear folks, there are a lot of people who are struggling. Just back to Anna's call yesterday. Anna's been back in touch and I made a promise to Anna yesterday, both on air and off air that we'll keep in touch because she's hurting and she's struggling and she's a single mum and she needed some help. Well, she's just sent through a text message just to sort of let everyone know that she's doing okay and just to say thank you. And she says, Mark, what a day I had yesterday. It started full of fear and uncertainty. But it was turned around by the love and generosity of you, your team and your listeners. I would love to give special thanks to you and your team. The bank's town Mayor Balal El Hayak, together with Amin and Dema from the Human Appeal, who generously donated vouchers for food and fuel. 33:08Where yesterday I started the day feeling scared, alone and helpless. I ended it feeling surrounded by love and support. I'll never forget this and I plan to pay the generosity forward in any way I can with my renewed faith and energy yesterday gave me. I was especially buoyed by the fact my call made it to Parliament in front of the Prime Minister and if I've done anything to make a difference to everyday Australians, I'm happy. We got politicians spending unreal amounts of money on, on travel and. The Prime Minister were in a cheesy green everywhere he goes and. We're like, what do we do? Where do we go from him? 36:08Happy to help her again. But yeah, look, I'm one of the lucky ones. Maybe look, I've got four kids in a mortgage and look on. I'll do it. I'll always be all right. You know, I've got some trades behind me and I've got. I've been used to go, but. Look around me and in the lack. People are doing it tough, you know, the morale is at an all time low. I don't know. Well, where do you go from him? We've got people like Mark Levy on the air just absolutely given it to these guys. And I think I speak on behalf of Sydney, you're saying. Thank you very much for getting these issues out there and having no backs mate. Brian, it's, it's, it's my responsibility. It's my role. And you know, when I, when I took over this show, what now year and a half ago, I made everyone a promise. I said, I'm going to stand up for you guys. I'm going to, I'm going to stand up for the, for the battlers of Australia. And the sad part is middle Australia have become the battlers of Australia. You know, people like you, Brian, small business owners. There's, there's a lot of hurt. And while this week it's, it's been about sharing our stories. I, I think next week to, I hate to use the word that sort of is associated with the pandemic.

So that's because of the floods they've had up in Queensland. So that's devastating for a lot of people that like to go along to the Big Red Bash. So we'll catch up with Greg a little later this hour. I can also tell you that Kyle Sandelands has been in court this morning, the federal court. He's fronted a judge in his high stakes legal battle with the former employer, ARN. He was looking resplendent to and he sued this morning. Kyle, these proceedings and he's $100 million dispute good underway. He's just emerged from the federal court. Sarah Stewart, from nine years, was down outside the federal court. But a chaos ensued. There was some protestors as well.

39:15Let's have a listen. We have a happy that what we're putting forward is going to be well received. But both parties are getting back on air tomorrow. I'm ready to go on air. I told the judge today or they told them we're happy to go back on Monday. ARN doesn't want you there. ARN doesn't want you there. How do you feel about that? It does sort of feel like that. But I just think that I'm going to come for you. I'm going to come for you. I'm not sure actually. I just want to get back to work. It's not with these people. I'll have to figure out a whole new plan. That's where I want to go. I've been spoken with Jack. Do you regret what you said to Janet? I've said that before. No, everyone says things from time to time.

40:15Especially with people that you're close with. It's unfortunate to work that way. She understands we've had blowups before. Her on me, me on her. We just get over it usually. I think this has all turned into quite a circus. When you say ARN is being opportunistic, what do you mean by that? Did I say them? Maybe you've read someone else's story. Maybe you've read Mary's story. It feels like I didn't do anything different than I've been doing for 25 years. Actually, a little bit tamer than most days, because I was actually quite concerned that she's feeling good and everything's okay. An argument did happen. I think it was quite tame compared to how they'd been before. And it would have just been over and done with the next day and the show would have cruised on like normal. Are you surprised that it has ended up like this? Are you surprised that it has ended up like this? I mean, they've told you that not going to be on air on Monday. That must be a massive disappointment. It's disappointing. Oh, sorry, sorry. I didn't say I'd come here. Are you with the other ladies?

41:15Come with me. Come with me. That's all right. We might leave it there. I don't know what the protestors are all about. Obviously, they're to support car by the sounds of things. But anyway, it's going through the court process. And I haven't really made too much of a comment about the whole situation, because it doesn't really affect me or my life. But I think I'd say this. From a radio industry's perspective, I think the whole thing is sad, because, you know, whilst we are direct competitors to what they do over at ARN, we're still a part of a very important industry. And, you know, in an era now, where we've got a lot of people listening to podcasts and listening to streaming, and a whole range of different things, I'd hate to think that potentially listeners to the Kyle and Jackie O's show would just turn the radio off. I'd like to hope and think that they'd be listening to Ben, who puts together a terrific program every morning between 5.30 and night. Do I agree with the content that Kyle and Jackie O have dished up over the years?

42:15Absolutely not. If I was a father, I wouldn't have the radio on, because, well, that's show on anyway, because of some of the stuff I've heard. And I find it amazing, in what 19 years I've worked here at 2GB, we sit through a whole range of briefings and legal talks about what we can and can't say from a legal perspective and standpoint, and we talk about the radio code, where it seems like it doesn't apply to the software over at ARN, with some of the things that they've got away within the past. Admittedly, look, the regulator has stepped in and fined and certainly taken action over some segments that they've portrayed on their particular radio station, but I think at the moment, we just press on with what we do here at 2GB, because while some of the FM stations might be producing content that they seem funny, I think the real issues facing everyday Australians at the moment is a cost of living crisis and an energy crisis. I was watching a bit of the today show this morning, and I want to give Carl Stiff an over-correct. I don't know whether it coincides with this new podcast that he's got, but cheesy's, he's been fired up for the right reason when he's been interviewing some of these politicians. So the Deputy Prime Minister Richard Miles was on the today show this morning

44:17with the same rhetoric that he and his government have been using and saying for weeks now, I want to play you a bit of what both Carl and Mr. Miles had to say this morning. Here's how it all sort of played out this morning on the today show, starting off here with Richard Miles. So farmers can't farm, fishmen can't fish, builders can't build, but hey, hardworking Australians, don't panic, honestly, it's amateur air. Well, I'm not really sure what to make of that question, Carl, but I mean, we are dealing with this in a very serious and prudent way. I mean, there are obviously challenges that we are facing. And one of the challenges here is we don't know how long this is going to go. So we need, in a sense, to be taking it a day at a time, but we are obviously working through all the scenarios that the country may face based on how long this is going forward. There are challenges in terms of fuel going forward, but on this day, we are getting the fuel supplies into Australia that we need.

45:21And so our message is to people to be prudent. We know there are challenges. We know people are doing it tough with fuel prices by the fuel you need, but don't buy anymore. We understand why people would have engaged in stockpiling, and because of that, we are seeing some shortages, and that's why we've released a significant component of the national stockpile where we're getting it out to where people are needed. It's amazing, isn't it? The biggest issue that the government has at the moment is no one trusts them. You can tell the Australian public and desperate farmers to stop panic buying fuel because the situation's under control, but they refuse to listen. And that's because they do not trust your government, Richard. Trusting the government is backfired on Australians before and there. They aren't silly enough to let it happen again. The US president said he was surprised by Australia's refusal to help the US secure the straight-of-hall moors.

46:21Carl then asked the deputy PM what his response is to Donald Trump's comments about Australia overnight. Is he's response? Look, we have been providing an E7 for the defence of the Gulf States. That was the request of the UAE. I mean, the one request we've had from the United States is to provide support for the Gulf States, which is in fact what we are doing. And that's where we see our national interest. We do that because of the relationship we have with the Gulf States, but also because in the UAE, specifically, it is home to one of the largest expat populations that Australia has. And so it's a really important contribution. We've signed up to the statement that has been led by the United Kingdom in respect of the Straits of Hall Moors, but we'll continue to make decisions based on our national interest. We will look at the requests that are being made of us by countries around the world, including the United States. We don't have a request from the United States in respect of the Straits of Hall Moors right now.

47:24That's Richard Miles, the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, on the today show, the smorning. So that's the latest there. I'll catch up with Angus Taylor, hopefully, after the break. Just before we get to a break, though, off the back of my comments here about ARN and Karl Sandelens and the like. 48:26Well, you've heard the story. A call from Anna, who dialed 131873 to share her story. She's a single mum, she's from Croydon Park and the Prime Minister's Electoral Grandler, and she's struggling to make ends meet. She's fearing that the lack of fuel could make it hard to get her children to and from school. And that call here on 2GB yesterday was put to the Prime Minister during question time. Alison Penn folder, Nationals MP for Line and Area North of Newcastle asked the Prime Minister about Anna's story. My question is to the Prime Minister. Anna, a single mum from Croydon Park in the Prime Minister's electorate, told 2GB this morning, and I quote, I was driving my kids to their sports carnival today, panicking, driving past five fuel stations with no fuel. What do I do if there's no fuel? What if my kids get sick and I can't pick them up? In quote, when will the Prime Minister finally take action to ensure fuel gets to his own constituents?

49:29Call to the Prime Minister. I think the Member for Line for her question, and indeed the comments from Anna in Croydon Park, of course, are real because people out there are facing a difficult circumstance. The Government acknowledges that. We don't come in here and say there's not a war. We don't come in here and say there aren't issues of distribution. What we do is come in here and put forward practical plans to make a difference, and that is the responsible thing to do. How dismissive. That's just unacceptable from the Prime Minister. I wanted to get the reaction of the alternate PM this morning. Angus Taylor is the Opposition Leader. He's on the line. Angus, good morning to you. Good day, Mark. Good to be with you. I don't know you've heard Anna's call. A lot of people are asking the question as the Prime Minister even care.

50:29What did you think when you heard Anna's call? He was dismissive of it as he has been of all of the examples we've given over the last few weeks in the Parliament of people who can't get access to the fuel they need. Whether it's a mum who's worried about being able to transport their kids around, get them to school, get them to sport, or whether it's a farmer who's worried about being able to plant or harvest their crop. Whether it's a trucky, he's got to move food to the local food store supermarket. We're hearing these stories right across the country. First of all, we had the government saying there was no problem. Then they declared a national crisis. Then they've done nothing about it. We're the ones who have asked them time and time again how many servos are out of fuel. We now know it's over 600. But they haven't been transparent. They haven't taken it seriously. Most of all, they haven't shown leadership. That's what we need right now, Mark. We need leadership. There's clear things that can be done. We've just been out announcing our proposal, which we've put to the Prime Minister. I've written a letter to him to slash the fuel tax.

51:37But we can also, we know there's stocks out there. You can get that fuel to those servos. The government needs to be working with the companies to do that. We need leadership. We need to slash the tax. We need to move the fuel. Right now, this government isn't being decisive and isn't taking the leadership role in these two. I'll come to the tax that is sick, but you're your self-angus. Did you hear Anna's call? I didn't hear the call. I heard the... Let me, let me, let me play it to you. This is Anna yesterday. My heart's thumping, making this phone call honestly. I'm really emotional at the moment. And I know I'm not just speaking for myself. I know I'm speaking for so many people who are suffering at the moment. And my plea is to Anthony Albany. What are you doing? Like, honestly, what are you doing? I recently spent one and a half thousand dollars moving my kids and I come a single bomb to a cheaper place in Sydney to save 175 a week. Only for that money, not to go in my pocket at all. It's going on these ridiculous fuel prices, the cost of groceries, cost of electricity.

52:41I'm just exhausted. I'm sitting here every day thinking, when is our beneathy going to announce? I'm going to cut the fuel exercise. I'm going to somehow really do something for all of us. And I just hope he's listening to this phone call. Stop with your silly meetings. You know, stop. You know, just do something now. Angus, don't give me the political answer. I want to know the answer from Angus Taylor, the father, the son, the educated bloke in Australia who listens to a single mum who has to call a radio station and a radio program like this to pour her heart out. You've now heard it. How does that make you feel? Hi, 50. It's harder ending. I mean, it really is. And her story is the story I hear all the time, Mark, of Australians. You know, we live in the greatest country on earth, but it doesn't feel like it right now. And so many Australians are telling a story like Anna. And you know, anyone who listens to it is going to feel the emotion of it.

53:48And that's because she is facing a real crisis in her life and so many other Australians are feeling the same way. So you're right. I mean, it's hard to listen to because it is so heart-renning. Do you understand, Angus? You've been in politics long enough, right? A great barometer of the feeling in the community at the moment is our open line. And for the last few days, I've taken call after call after call, trucking operators that are going to have to park up their fleet. Retirees that are weighing up whether they go and buy medication or go to the shops or put petrol in the car. First home buyers that have had to hand the keys back because they can't afford it because of the rising interest rates. At two o'clock every day, they turn on the TV and they watch you guys in question time and it's like a circus, right? And you know, I sit there and I watch it and you know, the prime minister gets up there the smugness from Chris Bowen. You guys are supposed to represent the people of this country. The people of this country are hurting yet they turn on the TV and they watch legitimate questions from your side of politics be put to the prime minister.

54:52And then Chris Bowen gets up in some respects and says, oh, I refer the Honourable Member to my previous question. What does that say to the people of this country who are hurting? Who are sitting at the kitchen table at night working out how they are going to afford their mortgage repayments? How are they going to afford their grocery bills? How are they going to afford to put petrol in their car to take the kids like Anna said to their school sporting carnival? Do you guys understand that what you're portraying at the moment in Canberra does not reflect what's happening in the real world and what's happening in this country at the moment? I absolutely agree with that. I mean, I couldn't agree more Mark. I mean, I think the upsetting thing for everyone right now is how disconnected it's become. Because, you know, where I live, which is not exactly at the top end of town, it's a beautiful country town that I've lived in for many years. But you hear these stories every day. I've got truckies who live right next door to where I am.

55:53And they'll tell you about how they're struggling and the disconnect between what's happening in Canberra. And them, just an hour away, is incredibly real. So, yeah, we do feel it. I mean, I have to sit there. I have to sit there in question time across the table and listen to these answers. And I do feel a sense of disdain about how people, how we're seeing the energy minister and the prime minister to deal with this stuff. All right. This is an answer you've made this morning, having the fuel tax. Is that enough at the moment or do we need to do more? Well, there's more we need to do to get the fuel to the customers to the service as well. But it's a start in terms of providing some relief. I'm in cutely conscious of the fact that exactly as Anna said, the fuel price increases. Everyone's having to wear the bowser is after a whole lot of other things that have added to people's cost of living and made it life harder for them.

56:54Whether it's the price of your groceries or the cost of your mortgage or your price of your insurance or the price of your rent. All of those things have gone up and then you see that price of the bowser and it is just it feels like the straw that breaks the camel's back. And that's certainly how Anna understandably described it, but it's something we can deal with immediately now. The bigger broader issue is how we take the deal with this cost of living crisis and the upcoming budget has got to be focused on that above all else. I get how politics works, Angus, and you know, the government of the day has to take responsibility for the position we're in. I said to your colleague yesterday, Andrew Hastie, that, you know, yes, we're in the middle of a war and he said, well, we didn't have a choice. Well, we could have prepared ourselves for what was to come. I think the telltale signs were there for everyone to see as those warships were being positioned by the United States. But I guess my question to you, Angus, is that while we're playing politics with this and you're pointing the finger at the government, you were once a minister responsible for our fuel reserves.

58:03And there was an agreement in place that suggested that we were to have 90 days of fuel available to us. So do you then as now opposition leader that's pointing the finger at the government need to take some responsibility for the position we find ourselves in because there were no improvements made to our fuel reserves. Am I right or wrong? No, there were, but we were to your point. We were in a bad position when I came in as energy minister. So we did two things. One is we secured. We guaranteed a run to rate our remaining refineries, which are now of great benefit to us. All two of them. Yeah, and you look, I understand the point. I'm not saying the starting point was good. It was terrible. But the point that Angus and I hate to interject, but the point I want to make to you is this right is that we have gone from a country that had what eight refineries. I grew up in a place called Rockdale and of a night I used to see the fire burning from the chimney over at Cornell.

59:05And now we're relying on 90% of our oil coming to a country that is resource rich. We're a country that is paying an exorbitant amount of money to keep our lights on despite the fact we have all this coal, we have all this uranium, we have all this gas. But because we've gone down the path, oh net zero and all of this green scare mongering, this is the reason we find ourselves in this position. And you know, your side of politics was in government for quite amount of time that is also contributed to this. So surely Angus Taylor, you have to put your hand up and acknowledge, yes, we could have done more while also holding the government of the day to account. Yes or no? Oh, yeah, look, I agree with that. I mean, I couldn't agree more. I said when I came into this job, the Liberal Party has made mistakes and it includes on energy. The net zero ideology, I think, has been an important contributor to the situation we're in. Why? Because we haven't been drilling for oil. We need more oil coming out of the ground in this country.

1:00:07A big part of the reason we've lost refineries is we haven't got the crude oil. You've got to import it. And so we need to drill. We need to drill. We need to dig. We need to drill. We've got incredible resources in this country and we haven't done enough of it. So Mark, I don't, I mean, from the moment I came into this job, I was very clear. The mistakes have been made in the past. And my job now is to front up to the Australian people, acknowledge that, but most importantly, start putting real solutions on the table. That means getting rid of the net zero ideology. I couldn't agree more drilling more for oil, making the most of the remaining refineries we've got. Looking for opportunities to build out more sovereignty and more self-sufficiency where we can. We have to do all of this. But today, I just want some relief to the fuel price. And because because of Anna's story and so many other stories around Australia.

1:01:07All right. Well, one couple more questions before you go. I think the logical and the reality of the situation we find ourselves in at the moment, if you look at the polls and everything else, is that for any, for us to have any hope of this Labor government being removed from government at the next election, you need to get into bed, so to speak with one nation. Are you prepared to sign some sort of agreement or to agree informally to something with one nation to ensure for the good of this country that Labor does not win the next election? Well, could I say I'm very happy to work with one nation as we can, as best we can, to turf out a rotten Labor government. So what does that mean? So what does that mean? Well, so, you know, over time, we'll talk about preferences. It's too far off from the election to do that today. But are we, are we ruling out doing a preference deal with one nation? Absolutely not. But, but is it really too far away though? Angus, I mean, you've got two years to either win back support for you or highlight the deficiencies of the current government.

1:02:11I would have thought your main priority while today's announcement is fantastic. Don't get me wrong. I would have thought you'd be on the phone to Pauline Hansen saying, look, let's have a dinner. I'll let you come into my office and cook me a steak on the, on the sandwich press like it would be whatever. But, but I would have thought your main priority is to put yourselves in a position with one nation to depose this Labor government. So are you having those conversations or not? Yeah, look, I've, I've always had a good relationship with Pauline. I'm not going to talk about proper conversations. We will alone have, but it's just a general, just a general question. Are you talking to her or not? Yeah, look, Pauline and I will talk in the, in the coming weeks, no doubt. So, you haven't spoken to him. Well, we've spoken a lot in overtime, but over and, and we will again in the future and we should and we must because this is a rotten Labor government. It's leading the country down the garden path. We're going in the wrong direction. And you are right to say our top priority, my top priority, Pauline's top priority, I hope as well, is to, if to get rid of this rotten Labor government.

1:03:16I think Barnaby has the same view and Mac Hat about on my side. So that has to be our top priority. I agree with you. All right. Well, Angus, you made an announcement today. I know the Prime Minister is speaking in Canberra alongside Chris Bowen. We'll see what he's got to say for himself. But we just need to help hardworking Australians who are really, really struggling. I thank you for your time as always. Good on you. Thanks. Thanks. That's Angus Taylor, the opposition leader. Does that not tell his colleagues within the coalition that we need to sidle up to one nation for the good of this country and get rid of this Labor government?

1:04:16I mean, blind Freddie can see that. But why can't Angus Taylor wouldn't answer the question? I've spoken over over the years. You should be speaking to a now Angus. Get the deal done. And as an addition as the Prime Minister indicated with those Australians thinking about potential flights over Easter can confirm there are currently as we speak. Six cargo loads of jet fuel on their way to Australia which is the normal level to be expected at this time. None of them have been cancelled. Yeah that makes sense in the real world. Now apparently this next one the response from the Prime Minister is what you need to hear to believe how stupid this government is and I hate to use that word but how else do you describe it. Now he's reacted to the push from the opposition to cut the fuel exercise is the PM.

1:11:33The opposition are calling for some having said in parliament all week and had the opportunity to raise whatever issues they wanted they didn't. That's up to them but they've called also for cuts to things that are making a difference to cost of living such as batteries that are making a positive difference. They've called for cuts to EV support. I don't think is anyone out there today who has bought an electric vehicle who's regretting the decision at this point in time. No for goodness sake. Now what the opposition's doing Prime Minister is they want you to do something because at the moment you're doing nothing. 1:13:39So sadly we've made the decision to cancel it for this year and and hopefully have another crack next year we will be having another crack next year. All the big names I'm assuming now you're going to have to issue refunds which is going to hurt your budget bottom line and what's already a tough economic climate Greg. 1:17:02Look the other person who's weighed in today in relation to the leadership being shown or lack thereof from the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is a former PM Tony Abbott here's what he said to say. Whenever there's a crisis whether it was the Bondi massacre whether it's the current Iran war the Prime Minister goes missing. It's frankly been culpably negligent particularly of the Albanese government not to have got more fuel on shore. The Prime Minister has been in hiding for the last few weeks. Hard to disagree with Tony Abbott the former Prime Minister there look there's another former Prime Minister who spoke today but I want to have some fun this last hour and not get your blood pressure too worked out. Did he do that on the ABC now that they're back at work anyway apparently held an impromptu press conference in Canberra so there you are look the other story that you'll probably hear about throughout the day New South Wales police.

1:18:02This is terrible or investigating a swastika which was allegedly carved into the window of the pattington premises of Jewish bagel and sandwich shop locks in a box police confirm they were investigating after receiving a report of malicious damage at the Oxford street business at about midday yesterday. Noting that their inquiries established the incident occurred on Saturday and an Instagram post last night the business owner who's grandparents were Holocaust survivors said they were in shock and that the alleged incident coming ahead of the Jewish Passover festival felt like a punch that landed deeper than most. For one and six months an hour so we could buy a little motorboat for a holiday down in Cornwall. The other things well when I got to 17 I set my hand out some pocket money and they said yeah I'll give you some pocket money Monday morning I was out there on the building site.
