The Turks and Kegas Islands Fire and Rescue Service says the Deputy Chief Fire Officer was notified by the 911 Emergency Communications Center at about 5.33 am. When firefighters arrived around 5 minutes later, both vehicles were fully engulfed in flames.

2:06Firefighters initially used portable fire extinguishers to tackle the fires. A fire truck Alpha 1 arrived shortly after 5.40 am and cruise deployed hoses and used about 350 gallons of water and firefighting foam to bring the fires under control. Both fires were fully extinguished by about 5.58 am and the firefighters remained on the scene to make sure the vehicles did not reignite. The scene was handled over to the Royal Turks and Kegas Islands Police Force at around 6.10 am. The cause of the fires is not yet known and is under investigation. Minister responsible for Public Safety, Honourable Sean Malcolm, brings the fire and rescue service for what he described as a swift and coordinated response. He said their timely intervention brought both fires under control and helped to reduce the risk of flames spreading to nearby property. This incident again demonstrates the importance of maintaining a well-trained, properly equipped and operationally ready fire and rescue service.

3:08I also thank the 911 Emergency Communications Center and the Royal Turks and Kegas Islands Police Force for their continued partnership in protecting our communities. The public is reminded to stay a safe distance from active fire scenes and to call 911 immediately to report fires or other emergencies. With the various fires happening across the Turks and Kegas Islands, there are still fresh concerns being raised about the territory's ability to respond to major fire emergencies. The minister with responsibility for Public Safety Honourable Sean Malcolm shared in Parliament that there are measures being put in place to reduce the impact of fires. He gave this response after the leader of the opposition warned that a TCI remains vulnerable, particularly on Providencia leaves. Honourable asked would also say that even a small fire at a hotel or other large property could quickly become a major incident if fire fighters do not have the equipment needed to respond immediately. He then called for a change in the

4:10government's approach to fire preparedness. Honourable Malcolm then gave an update on the measures. Mr. Speaker, there is the highest level of fire mitigation that is enthroned in the construction of these resorts. And as a matter of fact, Mr. Speaker, the fire and the hotel the other day only clearly demonstrated for the first time that it actually works. Because if the fire mitigations was not enthroned in the building codes, then we would have a catastrophe. Cabinet has already approved just about a couple of days before that fire, 1.4 million to buy new fire. Appliances, Mr. Speaker. Honourable Malcolm then shared his plans for a country-wide

5:19first-station initiative. So Mr. Speaker, through the good ministry, with good leadership of the PBID, my government is advancing a country-wide fire-station development initiative. New stations are planned for five keys. New fire-station coming for blue hills and wheelings. New ones coming for Leeward. Long back. Thank you, Mr. Speaker. But then the end of the story because we are reforming straight through the country. And fire-station is on the way also planned for Wigby North Peckers. Then it, then it. New fire station coming for bombara,

6:24middle-cakeers. And by Godly, Mr. Speaker, new ones coming for South Peckers, Salky and Grand Tuck! The minister also went on to discuss the hiring of a new fire chief, new policies and accountability standards, and specialized training for investigating fire incidents, and a comprehensive rebranding. The government says it is working to strengthen the territory's fire response capabilities. The future of healthcare in the Turks and Kegas Islands has once again come under scrutiny as a contract with Interhealth Canada approaches its end. During her throne speech and parliament her excellency the governor, Delini Daniel Selveratnum, said a joint transition committee has been established between the government and Interhealth Canada to ensure hospital services continue without interruption. But leader of the opposition Honourable Edwin Aswood says the public and healthcare workers are being left in the dark about what happens next,

7:28including the future of hospital staff, and how much money is owed to Interhealth Canada. With these statements Honourable Akira Misek sought to provide clarity on the government's handling of the healthcare system. So Mr. Speaker, the contract is coming to an end. The government has already agreed to the establishment of the Joint Transition Committee. This committee will be formed and is formed because we already have agreed in cabinet to manage the handover from the current provider to a new provider if that is the case or to a new structure that would be developed with NTCIG. Their duty is very clear Mr. Speaker. The clinical care facilities that are currently in these islands are not getting on a boat or a plane and leaving the territory. They will still be there. Their determination will deal with, speaking to the current staff members, developing a new staffing plan and identifying any

8:34essential works that need to be undertaken at those facilities for a new operator or a new structure. This government is not sitting back waiting for the 11th hour to then come up with a plan. These are moving parts that will continue to move until a final policy and proposal is ready to present to the people of these islands of what would be put in place. We have to acknowledge Mr. Speaker that this cabinet, this entire government, would several of us who use the health care services in these islands would not sit back and allow that day to come where the lights are turned off at any of the hospitals in these islands. The government says the transition process will focus on protecting patients and ensuring that clinical care, staffing, supplies, and essential hospital services continue during the changeover. We now turn to Arzoia Felser who shed some light

9:39on a number of women who have been promoted within TCIG. Five women have been appointed or promoted to senior positions across Sturx and Kegos Islands public service, taking on leadership roles in culture, education, land administration, professional development, and home affairs. The appointments announced by the Office of the Deputy Governor include Latanya Gardner-Risa, Francine Dorville, Shervita Williams, Erica Green, and Tamara Jolly. Gardner-Risa has been appointed as Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Heritage within the Ministry of Education, Youth Sports and Culture. She holds a Master of Science and Hospitality Management from Florida International Universities, Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management and an Associate of Science in Travel and Tourism Management from Johnson & Wales University. Gardner-Risa previously worked as Office Manager for the Financial Services Commission in both Grand Turk and Providenciales from June of 2021 through

10:41November of 2023, overseeing administrative and operational functions supporting approximately 80 employees. Before her latest appointment, she served as Senior Product Development Officer at Experience Turks and K-Cos in Grand Turk, where she supervised teams across Grand Turk, Salt Key and South K-Cos. Her responsibilities included developing partnerships with businesses, community organizations, and cultural practitioners, and helping to deliver tourism and culturally initiatives across the islands. Francine Dorville has been appointed Learning and Development Officer in the Learning and Development Directorate within the Office of the Deputy Governor. She's completing a Master of Education and Educational Leadership and Management through the University of the West, Indies, and holds a Bachelor of Education and Primary Education and an Associate's degree in Primary Education. Dorville moves into the position following several years in the classroom. She taught at Precious Treasures International School from January of 2020 through August of 2021

11:42before joining Thelma Leipram Primary, where she taught from September 2021 through August of 2026. Her new role will focus on supporting learning and professional development initiatives across the Turks and K-Cos islands, public service. Shervita Williams, meanwhile, has been appointed Assistant Education Policy and Planning Officer in the Department of Education. Her appointment marks a transition from classroom teaching to education policy following a 16-year career as an educator. Williams holds a Master of Science in Education, specializing in Learning, Technology, and Society from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom. She also holds degrees in Business Administration and Primary Education from the Turks and K-Cos islands community college. Her teaching career included positions at the I-M-Thie Pratt Primary School, Eliza Simon's Primary, and most recently Ona Glinton Primary in Grand Turb. Williams has also participated in National Curriculum Training and previously assisted with the development of the Primary School syllabus for Early Childhood Education.

12:46Erica Green has been appointed Head of Secretary yet within the National Land Secretary yet. She joined the Turks and K-Cos islands government in June of 2018 as an Administrative Officer in the Ministry of Finance, Investment, and Trade, before moving to the National Land Secretary yet as Senior Admin Officer in September of 2022. Green holds an Associate's degree in Social Work from the Turks and K-Cos Islands Community College, and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Ashworth College. She's also completed Professional Training and Leadership, Team Development, and Organizational Change. As Head of Secretary yet Green will oversee key administrative operations and manage cabinet submissions, parliamentary responses, and policy tracking involving government officials and other stakeholders. Tamara Jolly has been appointed Executive Administrator within the Ministry of Home Affairs. She brings experience and administration, payroll and financial management, and previously served as a Senior Administrative Officer within the Turks and K-Cos Islands government. Jolly also spent a decade at paychecks working in positions,

13:51including payroll specialists, implementation specialists, and human resources, payroll specialists. She's pursuing a Bachelor of Science and Finance through Divirie University and a Supervisory Management Certificate through the University of the West Indies. Her professional training also includes payroll administration, human resources, and implementation management. The five appointments place the women in key positions across several areas of government, as the public service continues to strengthen its leadership and administrative capacity. Thank you, Zoya. Air Travel across the United Kingdom has been disrupted after a technical failure in the country's air traffic control system for the cancellation of thousands of flights. National air traffic services or NATS, which provides air traffic control services, at 15 UK airports, said the technical

14:56issue, began around 1pm on Tuesday. The outage affected major airports including London Heathrow, Gatwick, and Stanstead, as well as Manchester and Birmingham. More than 1,750 flights arriving at and departing from UK airports were cancelled on Tuesday. A further 291 flights were cancelled on Wednesday. According to reports, more than 330,000 passengers had been affected by the disruption. NATS set its flight processing system was fixed after several hours, but warned that the aviation network would take time to recover from the disruption. Heathrow said flights were operating on Wednesday, but warned passengers that delays could continue, as airlines worked to reposition aircraft and crew. British Airways cancelled more than 190 flights, while Ryan Error said more than 65,000 of its passengers were affected and more than 50 flights were cancelled. The disruption also had a knock-on effect on flights across Europe, with some incoming flights held at airports

15:58outside the UK. UK transport secretary Heidi Alexander met with NATS chief executive Martin Rolf on Wednesday and raised concerns about the scale of the disruption. The latest incident is the third major air traffic control disruption in the UK in just over three years, following major outages in 2023 and 2025. NATS has apologized to passengers and says a full investigation will be carried out to determine what went wrong and whether further action is needed.
