Moonstone: Peeking Beyond the Veil
About this episode
This week we’re diving into a deeply personal stone for me: classic white moonstone.
As we continue exploring March’s theme of the Veil Between Worlds — alongside Victorian Spiritualism, liminal spaces, and upcoming Ostara energy — it felt like the perfect time to share the stone that quietly opened the doorway for me.
In 2001, while newly independent and discovering who I was, I bought a moonstone pendant at a small shop on Catalina Island. I wore it constantly — and I’m wearing it again while recording this episode. Looking back, it feels like a conversation with my younger self… the one who sensed there was more beyond the surface of this world.
Moonstone has always felt like:
- A soft doorway rather than a dramatic portal
- A glimpse beyond the veil
- A quiet, intimate cousin to labradorite
✨ In This Episode:
- The science behind moonstone’s glow (adularescence) and its feldspar structure
- Ancient lore: solidified moonlight, sacred feminine energy, protection at night
- Moonstone as a stone of new beginnings and transitions
- Emotional balance, intuition, and dream work
- Its connection to hormonal cycles, fertility, and nurturing energy
- Why moonstone enhances psychic sensitivity — especially during the full moon
Moonstone doesn’t rip the veil open. It gently thins it.
It reminds us that not all awakenings are sudden. Some gifts unfold slowly — through cycles, through time, through lived experience.
If you feel drawn to this stone, maybe it’s not by accident.
Sit with it under the full moon. Wear it close to your heart. Notice what begins to surface.
Trust what glimmers just beyond the veil. 🌙✨

0:00Welcome to the Crystal Library, a pocket-sized portal into the magical, mysterious, and sometimes misunderstood world of crystals. I'm your host Ashley, and each week I'll guide you as we explore one enchanting stone, its history, lore, healing properties, and one easy way to invite its magic into your everyday life. Whether you're crystal curious or deep in the womb, this is your space to learn, explore, and expand your connection to the mineral realm. One glittering gem at a time, so let's open the library and see which crystal wants to speak today. Welcome back to the Crystal Library. I'm Ashley, and I'm so glad you're here with me today because we're going to be diving into some deep, Ashley lore today. We really are. This month, in March, we're just continuing to use the energy.
1:00We're moving through the veil we've got. We just had the interview with Stephanie Kamler for the book club, which was incredible. Loved that. Now we're going to be, let's see here, this episode is coming out on March 10. Our next episode will be all about Ostarra and that spring energy, and we're also doing some deep dives into Victorian spiritualism this month, and that is why, with all of these themes together, I decided that this was the perfect time to introduce, and especially sacred stone to me, we're talking about moon stone. Now there's a lot of different varieties of moon stone. I'm not talking about black or peach or whatever. I'm talking about just the classic moon stone in its soft and luminous form.
2:03This is one of the very first crystals I ever connected with. So I bought my first piece of moon stone, this particular pendant that I'm wearing right now. It's beautiful blue flash, which I love so much. I bought this pendant at a small shop on Catalina Island, which is off the coast of California, Long Beach area specifically, back in 2001. Now looking back, this just feels like a conversation with my past self. At that time, I was deeply aware that there was something more just beyond the surface of what we were experiencing in this life. I was becoming connected to so many things spiritually, and I discovered moon stone and I fell
3:11in love with it. I loved how it looked like you were truly peering into another world. I had that very liminal quality to it, even though at the time I did not have language for it. I didn't even really know what I was experiencing. I just knew that I was experiencing things at that time that were so far different than what I had ever experienced in my life before. And this all falls at that time when I was in college. I was newly independent. I was living on my own for the first time. I was experiencing life in the way that I really had control over. And so this stone has always felt like I was standing at the edge of the veil. And I was catching a glimpse of something ancient, something luminous, something just out of reach, and that's kind of where we're going today.
4:13So when I was this age, I was just so receptive to so many things. And it makes me sad a little bit looking back because that innocence and that receptiveness was so heightened during this period of time. And I feel sad in the sense that I was not able to hold onto it. I lost my way from that feeling for so many years. I have that feeling back now, but I would say for the greater part of 20 plus years, it really went away. But I was able to hold on to this particular stone or many of other little stones that I had from during that time, but yeah, moon stone was truly a gateway for me. I think it was the perfect gateway.
5:14Something about even the name, moon stone, it felt so connected to other realms. And I'm just so happy that I still have this piece with me. It needs to be polished. It's the moon stone and it's kind of in this oval pendant. And then the silver is very tarnished. And I just didn't have time to polish it before the episode. I pulled it out and I was like, oh, I should wear it. It's got the good energy for the episode. But as I mentioned in the introduction, there are many forms of moon stone. There's black, peach, rainbow, more, but this is just this episode is specifically dedicated to your basic moon stone. The white, so I have another example here, the white silvery glow that has just like a very gentle, gentle flash.
6:15It was a stone that I bought during my, I'll call it my fairy era, okay? I referenced these wings that are in the background in the room that I'm sitting in behind me. And these were wings that I created during my fairy era. And I think that it sounds so kooky and wacky to even say this. Now as an adult, but I have always felt this connection to this other realm for as long as I could even remember. Like I always felt there was something different about me. I connected with things in a different way. I would see things in a different way. I experienced the world through a different lens and it was very different than anyone else around me. Like nobody else really understood what it was that I was experiencing.
7:17And I made these wings. I would wear these wings all the time. Like I'm telling you, I would wear these wings to target. I would wear them to parties. I would wear them out and about because something about it just made me feel like, I don't know. Like I just felt like that was me. I was a fairy girl. My email address, ash fairy, it's the same email that I've had since 2000. That's 26 years of having the same email. It used to be a hot mail address, but no, it's not. But I mean, it's like, it just goes to show like this has been, this has truly been me for such a long, I mean, more than half of my life, really. So when I connected with Moonstone, it felt very familiar. It didn't feel like this trendy type of stone. I can't even say anyone else I knew even knew what it was. But to me, now that I'm looking back, I can say that it truly felt like a stone that
8:21allowed me to look beyond the veil, even though back then at that time, I didn't even know what the veil was. It felt like this soft doorway rather than this dramatic portal into another world. It was similar, it is similar to Labradorite, but it has a little bit of a quieter energy. It feels more intimate. I didn't even know what Labradorite was back then. Let's be real. To me, it feels very connected to the ferry room. It's very connected to the liminal spaces and this childhood magic that I've always felt inside that I let go for a period of time, but I'm very thankful that it's back now. And I believe that some stones enter our life before we really even know why. So the first stone that I truly ever remember having was an Apache Teardrop.
9:22I've never, I have not done an Apache Teardrop episode for the Crystal Library yet, but I will one day. It's a type of obsidian, but that was the first stone that I ever had. My dad got it for me when I was a little kid. But it is a very powerful stone in my collection, but it's also one that I feel like found me far beyond, like far before I was ever ready for it to find me. I don't know if that makes sense. And it came this stone, my moon stone, my Apache Teardrop, they all, they came before I even had the language to understand what it was I was feeling or how I was connecting. The other interesting thing about moon stone is my friend Stephanie, who has been on the podcast a few times in the past. It's also one of her favorite stones. And I feel like the fact that it's one of her favorite stones and it's also one of my
10:23favorite stones, it gives us that sort of cosmic connection, which is interesting because I feel like her and I, our friendship was not an accident. I felt like there were so many energetic alignments that brought us together, whether it was through our podcasting, whether it was just through our personalities, both of our interests in these more spiritual or magical elements of life. But this stone, I feel like for her and I, as very close friends now, has something to do with soul contracts, shared frequencies between the two of us and recognizing someone across time. Her and I have both spoken and we both feel like we've known each other forever. It was such an easy friendship to form. It was so weird how even though we're very different, but yet we're very much the same.
11:31And our friendship just never, it's always felt so easy and natural and I feel like her and I, even though we've really only known each other for maybe two years, we've known each other forever, like forever and ever, like beyond this lifetime, like from beyond this lifetime into past lifetimes. And that's why I feel like there was probably this soul contract between the two of us, like our souls were meant to be connected in some way. And it's proven itself over and over again, but this common delight in moonstone is just another one of those, could we say, synchronous cities potentially. So there is some science behind moonstone and of course, I have a science girly too. It is a variety of felt spar and which is similar to laboratory, right? So it has this glow which is called, oh my gosh, I'm probably going to, I'm probably
12:35not going to say this right, add you, add you layer, add you layer since, okay. It's caused by light scattering between the internal layers. This physical structure is what gives it that veil-like shimmer. Common sources of moonstone are Sri Lanka, India, Madagascar. Even scientifically, moonstone is about layers and light, which I think is pretty cool. Ancient Romans believed moonstone was made of solidified moonlight. In India, moonstone is considered sacred and deeply feminine. It's associated with the lunar deities, travelers, lovers, seers and dreamers, which I think
13:36is me. Historically, it was worn as a talisman for a protection at night, emotional balance, fertility and love. It is a stone of new beginnings. It supports transitions, initiations, new chapters. It works in cycles just like the moon. It doesn't rush transformation, it unfolds it. So if you are in, if you're going through a lot of transformation in your life, this may be a great stone to pick up. It will be a supportive ally to help you get through that time. Maybe pick up, you know, a moonstone necklace. I think back to my own life, how this stone came to me really at a huge transitional point in my life. I mean, I was living on my own. I was figuring out who I was, the things in life that I truly identified with, the things that brought me joy, the things that I didn't like, and that came down to even things like
14:39how I wanted to dress, how I wanted to show up, what kind of food I wanted to eat. I could have control over all of those things, all of a sudden, which is, which was so different than in the past when I was living at home with my parents. Yes, I had control, but like, I didn't have 100% control. This stone also helps calm emotional overwhelm, it helps balance your reactions. It's especially supportive during heightened emotional periods. I think this is very interesting, too, because this was a stone that I really connected with during, not only just this big transition of my life where I was going from, you know, living at home with my parents to now being a college, living on my own. I had a long-term boyfriend during my high school years, and we broke up around the time that I first connected with Moonstone, and so I feel that, you know, and that was
15:44like my first true love, you know, and that was a very, like, it was a necessary break-up because most high school romances don't last, but it was also just like gut-wrenching because I had never experienced that before, so it was a stone that really helped me during that time, too. And I feel that I became so much stronger and so much more of an individual after that time, after that break-up, after discovering this whole whimsical, mystical side of who I was that I didn't even really know existed. It's not that I necessarily repressed it. I just didn't really know that it existed until that time. It, this stone can help make the unconscious conscious. It enhances our empathy and our emotional intelligence. It strengthens intuitive perception without overwhelm. I think people that are very,
16:51typically very intuitive people tend to be drawn to Moonstone in all of its forms, really. It is strongly associated with lucid dreaming or having dream recall or having a psychic sensitivity. This stone is especially potent during a full moon. It's often worn as a pendant. It helps you accept any kind of psychic gifts that you may have. It keeps intuition close to your heart. So maybe I bought this pendant all those years ago, not because I understood that. I mean, I don't think I really understood. I think I bought it because I just had this feeling, like I just always knew there was something different about who I am and what I am. And even now, as an adult, as someone that has a podcast, it's hard to explain it.
17:54I don't, I can't really explain it, but I can tell you, and this is just a little, another little aside, that I did have a session with a woman who canals spirit guides and she did tell me, and this is nothing that she knew about me ahead of time because I don't really talk about this much on my social media or anything. So there would have been no way that she could have known really anything about any of this with me. Prior to our conversation, but she did mention that at some point, in my history, my ancestry, like way back in another lifetime, like there was a period of time where I kind of was living in that realm, that very realm. And I said, okay, well, that would make sense because that's why I always feel connected to that. Now, back to regular schedule programming here. This stone is also very great to help you with
19:01hormonal regulation. It's very good to help with menstrual cycle balance. It's very helpful in your reproductive and fertility journey. It is such a soothing and nurturing stone. It supports the body during times of physical and emotional transition. Moonstone does not rip the veil open between the worlds. It kind of just thins that veil. It invites us rather than demands anything of us. It reminds us that magic is subtle. It's cyclical. It's patient. And Moonstone reminds us that not all awakenings are sudden, not all magic arrives fully formed. Some gifts reveal themselves slowly through cycles, through time, through lived experience, which is what I feel. This is a stone of new beginnings, yes, but also of remembrance,
20:03intuition that was always there, waiting patiently for you to be ready. I think that's a lot of what I'm experiencing now. As we move through this season of the veil, I invite you to sit with Moonstone under the full moon, to wear it close to your heart, or to simply notice what begins to surface when you soften your attention. Thank you so much for spending time with me in the in-between. Until next time, trust what glimmers just beyond the veil. Bye! Thank you for visiting the Crystal Library. I hope today's stone offered just the magic you needed. If you loved this episode, share it with your favorite mystic and tag me on instagram at mystical.mama.ash or at bid crystal energy podcast. And if you're feeling generous, leave a five star rating and review it helps this magic reach more curious souls. Until next time, keep your crystals close and your intuition closer.
