Montford Point Marine Guy Parker Honored Posthumously

This is the highest civilian honor from Congress. He was a Malford Point Marine who served during World War II and one of the first African Americans in the United States Marine Corps. Parker spent his adult life in Goldsboro after his service. He became well known there as the owner of Guy Parker's Barbecue. His grandson, Dub Cox, called the award a true honor for the family. Cox shared that Parker would have turned 100 years old on Christmas Day. Parker passed away in 2006 at the age of 80.
