Welcome to Common Prayer. This is a liturgy for Monday after the 4th Sunday in Lent. Let's pray. O Lord, open our lips and our mouths shall proclaim your praise. Blessed are you, God of compassion and mercy. Do you be praise and glory forever? In the darkness of our sin, your light breaks forth like the dawn and your healing springs up for deliverance. As we rejoice in the gift of your saving help, sustain us with your bountiful spirit and open our lips to sing your praise. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, blessed be God forever. Christ, though tempted like us, was without sin. O com, let us worship. Come, let us sing to the Lord. Let us shout for the joy to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving and raise a loud shout to him with
Psalms. For the Lord is a great God and a great King above all gods. In his hands are the depths of the earth and the heights of the hills are his also. The sea is his for he made it and his hands have molded the tri-land. Come, let us bow down and bend the knee and kneel before the Lord our maker. For he is our God and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. O that today you would hark into his voice. Heart and not your hearts as your forebears did in the wilderness at Meribah and on that day at Masaah. When they tinted me, they put me to the test. They had seen my works. Forty years long, I detested that generation and said, this people are wayward in their hearts. They do not know my ways. So I swore my wrath, they shall not enter my rest. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen.
The night has passed and the day lies opened for us. Let us pray with one heart and mind. As we rejoice in the gift of this new day, so may the light of your presence O God, set our hearts on fire with love for you, now and forever. Amen. Psalm 32 Happy are they whose transgressions are forgiven and whose sin is put away. Happy are they whom the Lord imputes no guilt and in whose spirit there is no guile. While I held my tongue my bones withered away because of my groaning all day long. For your hand was heavy upon me day and night, my moisture was dried up as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not conceal my guilt. I said, I will confess my transgressions to
the Lord, then you forgave me the guilt of my sin. Therefore all the faithful will make their prayers to you in time of trouble. When the great waters overflow, they shall not reach them. You are my hiding place. You preserve me from trouble. You surround me with shouts of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go. I will guide you with my eye. Do not be like horse or mule, which I have no understanding, which must be fitted with bit and bridle, or else they will not stay near you. Greater the tribulations of the wicked, mercy embraces those who trust in the Lord. Be glad you righteous and rejoice in the Lord. Shout for joy, all who were true of heart. Psalm 150. Hallelujah, praise God in His holy temple. Praise Him in the firmament of His power. Praise Him for His mighty acts. Praise Him for His excellent greatness. Praise Him with the blast of the ramsorn. Praise Him with liar and
harp. Praise Him with timbrel and dance. Praise Him with strings and pipe. Praise Him with resounding symbols. Praise Him with loud clanging symbols. Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord. Hallelujah. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen. A reading from the book of Genesis, beginning with the 49th chapter, the first verse. Then Jacob called his sons and said, gather around that I may tell you what will happen to you in days to come. A symbol and hero, sons of Jacob. Listen to Israel, your Father. Ruben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the first fruits of my vigor, excelling in rank and excelling in power. Unstable is water, you shall no longer excel because you went up onto your Father's bed, then you defiled it. You went up onto my couch. Simian and Levi are brothers.
Weapons of violence are their swords. May I never come into their council. May I not be joined to their company. For in their anger, they killed men, and at their whim, they hamstrung oxen. Curse to be their anger, vertus fierce, and their wrath vertus cruel. I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel. Judah, your brothers shall praise you. Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies. Your Father's sons shall bow down before you. Judah is a lion's wealth. From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He crouches down. He stretches out like a lion, like a lioness. Who dares rouse him up? The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him, and the obedience of the peoples as his. Binding his foe to the vine and his donkey's cult to the choice fine. He washes his garments and wine, and his robe in the blood of grapes.
His eyes are darker than wine, and his teeth wider than milk. Zebulan shall settle at the shore of the sea. He shall be a haven for ships, and his border shall be its side on. Isaacar is a strong donkey, lying down between the sheepfolds. He saw that a resting place was good, and that the land was pleasant, so he bowled his shoulder to the burden and became a slave at forced labor. Dan shall judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel. Dan shall be a snake by the roadside, a viper along the path that bites the horse's heels so that its riders fall backward. I wait for your salvation, old board. Gad shall be raided by raiders, but he shall raid at their heels. Asher's food shall be rich, and he shall provide royal delicacies. Naftali is a doe that looses that bears lovely fauns. Joseph is a fruitful bow, a fruitful bow
by a spring. His branches run over the wall. The archers fiercely attacked him. They shot at him and pressed him hard, yet his bow remained taught, and his arms were made agile by the hands of the mighty one of Jacob. By the name of the shepherd, the rock of Israel, by the god of your father, who will help you, by the almighty who will bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies beneath, blessings of the breast and of the womb, the blessings of your father are stronger than the blessings of the eternal mountains, the bounties of the everlasting hills. May they be on the head of Joseph, on the brow of him who is set apart from his brothers. Benjamin is a ravenous wolf, in the morning devouring the prey and an evening dividing the spoil. All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their fathers said to them when he blessed them, blessing each one of them with the suitable blessing.
I will make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. I am the Lord your holy one, the creator of Israel, whom I have chosen. Thus says the Lord who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters. Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of hold. Behold, I make all things new. Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, the people whom I formed for myself, that they might declare my praise. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen. I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. A reading from the Gospel according to Mark, beginning with the seventh chapter, the 24th verse. From there he set out and went away to the region of Tire. He entered a house and did not want
anyone to know he was there. He could not escape notice, but a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately heard about him, and she came and bowed down at his feet. Now the woman was a Gentile, a sire Phoenician of origin. She begged him to cast a demon out of her daughter. He said to her, let the children be fed first, for it is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs. But she answered him, sir, even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs. Then he said to her, for saying that you may go, the demon has left your daughter. So she went home, found the child lying on the bed, and the demon gone. Then he returned from the region of Tire and went by way of side on towards the sea of Galilee, in the region of the Tacopolis. They brought to him a deaf man, who had an impediment in his speech, and they begged him to lay his hand on him. He took him aside in private, away from the crowd, and put his fingers into his
ears, and he spat and touched his tongue. Then looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, Fatha, that is, be opened. And immediately his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. Then Jesus ordered them to tell no one. But the more he ordered them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. They were astounded beyond measure, saying, he has done everything well. He even makes the death to hear, and the mute to speak. You have given your people knowledge of salvation, O God, by the forgiveness of their sins. Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, for he has come to his people and set them free. He is raised up for us a mighty Savior, born of the house of his servant David. Through his holy prophets, he promised of old that he would save us from our enemies, from the hands of all that hate us. He promised to show mercy to our forebears and to remember his holy covenant. This was the oath he swore to our father, Abraham, to set us free from the hands of
our enemies, free to worship him without fear, holy and righteous in his sight, all the days of our life. You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the most high, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way, to give his people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of all their sins. In the tender compassion of our God, the dawn from on high shall break upon us, to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen. You've given your people knowledge of salvation, O God, with the forgiveness of their sins. I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the
Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. With faith and love and in union with Christ, let us offer our prayer before the throne of grace. Have mercy on your people, for whom your Son laid down his life. Lord have mercy. Bring healing and wholeness to people and nations, and have pity on those torn apart by division. Lord have mercy. Strengthen all who are persecuted for your namesake and deliver them
from evil. Lord have mercy. Look in mercy upon all who suffer and hear those who cry out in pain and desolation. Lord have mercy. Bring comfort to the dying and glad in their hearts with the power of your glory. Lord have mercy. Give rest to the departed and bring them with your saints to glory everlasting. Lord have mercy. Take a moment at this time to reflect and to pray for others. As we rejoice in the triumph of the cross, we pray that the whole creation may find fulfillment
in the eternal kingdom of God. Gracious Father, whose blessed son, Jesus Christ, came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world. Evermore give us this bread that he may live in us and we in him, who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, howl would be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever.
Amen. May God, our Redeemer, show us compassion and love. Amen. Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God. This is a liturgy for Monday evenings in Lent. Let's pray. Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, but what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart.
We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen. Almighty God, have mercy on us. Forgive us all our sins through our Lord, Jesus Christ. Strengthen us in all goodness and by the power of the Holy Spirit, keep us in eternal life. Amen. O God, make speed to save us. O Lord, make haste to help us. Let your ways be known upon earth, your saving power among the nations. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen.
Lord, hear my prayer. Answer me in your righteousness. Enter not into judgment with your servant, for in your sight shall no one living be justified. My Spirit faints within me. My heart within me is desolate. I spread out my hands to you. My soul gasped to you like a thirsty land. O Lord, make haste to answer me. My Spirit fails me. Do not hide your face for me. Let me hear of your loving kindness in the morning, where I put my trust in you. Show me the road that I must walk, for I lift up my soul to you. Teach me to do what pleases you, for you are my God. That your good Spirit lead me on level ground, revive me, O Lord, for your name's sake, for your righteousness's sake, bring me out of trouble. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen. Stir up in us, O God, the fire of your love, that we may be cleansed of all our sins, and so be made ready to come into your presence, singing your praises now and forever. Amen. Psalm 102. Lord, hear my prayer and let my cry come before you. Hide not your face for me in the day of my trouble, and climb your ear to me, when I call make haste to answer me. For my days drift away like smoke, and my bones are hot as burning coals. My heart is smitten like grass and withered, so that I forget to eat my bread, because of the voice of my groaning, I am but skin in bones. I have become like a vulture in the wilderness, like an owl among the ruins.
I lie awake and groan, and like a sparrow, lonely on a house top. My enemies are of aisle me all day long, and those who scoff at me have taken an oath against me, for I've eaten ashes for bread, and mingled my drink with weeping. Because of your indignation and wrath, you have lifted me up and thrown me away. My days pass away like a shadow, and I wither like the grass. But you, O Lord, endure forever, and your name from age to age. You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to have mercy upon her. Indeed, the appointed time has come. For your servants love her very rubble, and are moved to pity even for her dust. The nation shall fear your name, O Lord, and all the kings of the earth, your glory. For the Lord will build up Zion, and his glory will appear. He will look with favor on the prayer of the homeless.
He will not despise their plea. Let this be written for a future generation, so that a people yet unborn may praise the Lord. For the Lord looked down from his holy place on high, from the heavens he beheld the earth. Then he might hear the groan of the captive, and set free those condemned to die, that they may declare in Zion the name of the Lord, and his praise and Jerusalem. When the peoples are gathered together, and the kingdoms also, to serve the Lord. He is brought down my strength before my time. He has shortened the number of my days. And I said, Oh, my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days. Your years endure throughout all generations. In the beginning, O Lord, you lay the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They shall perish, but you will endure. They all shall wear out like a garment, as clothing you will change them, and they shall be changed.
But you are always the same, and your years will never end. The children of your servants shall continue, and their offspring shall stand fast in your sight. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now, and will be forever. Amen. At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow. Christ Jesus was in the form of God, but he did not cling to equality with God. He emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, and was born in our human likeness. Being found in human form, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him, and bestowed on him the name above every name, that the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth. In every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now, and will be forever. Amen. At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow. A reading from the book of 1 Corinthians, beginning with the 10th chapter, the 14th verse. 10 Therefore, my dear friends, flee from the worship of idols. I speak as to sensible people, judge for yourselves what I say. The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ. The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ. Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, we all partake of the one bread. Consider the people of Israel, are not those who eat the sacrifices, partners, and the altar. What do I imply, then, that food sacrifice to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice to the sacrifice to demons, and not to God.
I do not want you to be partners with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. Or are we provoking the Lord's jealousy? Are we stronger than he? All things are lawful, but not all things are beneficial. All things are lawful, but not all things build up. Do not seek your own advantage, but that of the other. Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. But the earth and its fullness are the lords. If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscious. But if someone says to you, this has been offered in sacrifice, then do not eat it. Out of consideration for the one who informed you and for the sake of conscience. I mean the others conscience, not your own. For why should my liberty be subject to the judgment of someone else's conscience? If I bear take with thankfulness, why should I be denounced because of that for which I gave
things? So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God, give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the Church of God, just as I try to please everyone and everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many so that they may be saved, be imitators of me as I am of Christ. Come, let us return to the Lord, for our God will richly pardon. My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior, where He has looked with favor on His lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed. The Almighty has done great things for me, and Holy is His name. He has mercy on those who fear Him in every generation. He has shown the strength of His arm. He has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. He has come to the help of His servant Israel, where He has remembered His promise of mercy. The promise He made to our fathers, to Abraham, and his children forever. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen. Come, let us return to the Lord, for our God will richly pardon. In the love of God, let us complete our evening sacrifice appraise, for the unity and peace of the Holy Church of God throughout the world. Lord, have mercy. For the peace and stability of all peoples, and for those in authority, Lord, have mercy. For our own country and its national life, and all who dwell among us, Lord, have mercy.
For a blessing on our homes, for our relations and friends, and all whom we love. Lord, have mercy. For the sick and the suffering, and for all who minister to their needs, Lord, have mercy. For all who sleep in Christ, that Christ will remember them in His heavenly kingdom. Lord, have mercy. Take a moment at this time to reflect and pray for others. Rejoicing in the fellowship of the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints,
let us commend ourselves into the mighty hands of God. Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven, to be the true bread which gives life to the world. Evermore give us this bread that He may live in us, and we in Him, who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever.
Amen. May the cross of the Son of God, which is mightier than all the host of Satan, and more glorious than all the host of heaven, abide with you, and you're going out and you're coming in. By day and night and morning and at evening, at all times and in all places, may it protect and defend you. From the wrath of evil doers, from the assaults of evil spirits, from foes visible and invisible, from the snares of the devil, from all passions that beguile the soul and body, may it guard, protect, and deliver you. Amen. Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God.
