Mobile Swim Association Lands $65K Grant, Boosts Local Programs

The City of Mobile Swim Association just landed a $65,000 grant from USA Swimming, the group behind US Olympic Swimmers. This community impact grant went to 13 clubs nationwide, but Mobile's is the only one in Alabama. The funds will boost local aquatic programs, competitive events, and support for diverse coaches. Money targets the club's community program, which teams up with a local nonprofit to offer swim lessons three times a week for a month at Florence. Howard Elementary School. They also run summer refreshers, so far more than 150 kids have joined with a new group starting soon. Head Coach Tyler Kern says the extra cash covers rising costs from the program's growth. It helps kids in the area who might never get these lessons otherwise, making a real difference right in their neighborhood. The Swim Association practices at a pool on Bishop State Community College campus and competes across the southeast.
