Mitchell's Upside, Jets' WR Need

0:00On April 17, Jets fans are buzzing about the 2026 NFL draft, just days away, and everyone screaming for a top-wide receiver. The New York Jets group is paper thin behind Stargare Wilson, who's their only proving guy after putting up 395 yards in. Seven games last year, the rest, mostly special teamers, and untested names like Adonai Mitchell, Isaiah Williams, and a few others who barely moved the needle. Mitchell landed with the Jets at the trade deadline in the Big Sauce Gardener deal, along with two first-round picks. This 23-year-old, second-round pick from last year, played eight games, snagged 24 catches for 301 yards, and two. Scores, sure, he had a rough 20% drop rate with six drafts, but he's locked in on a rookie deal for two more cheap seasons. Fans seemed to sleep on Mitchell, overlooking his real skills. His open score hit 67, ranking 19 out of 160 qualified receivers and tight ends. He thrives as the deep threat, too, with an average depth of target at 15.2 yards, fourth best among wideouts.

1:07Dig deeper, and quarterback misses killed his numbers. Jets QBs and even ones in Indy before the trade whiffed on open throws. At 6 foot 4 and 196 pounds, he owns the boundary as an ex-receiver, separating for big plays downfield. Bottom line, Mitchell's got sky high upside at his age, but he ain't a game-breaker yet. Jets still got to grab that Elite WR2 to pair with Wilson and fix the hole for real.
