Mitchell Hey Tower Block Faces Permanent Closure

0:00On April 21st, one of the seven sister's tower blocks in Rockshdale called Mitchell Hay just got hit with a permanent closure notice. Last month, a water leak forced out the few residents living there, only seven out of 120 flats were occupied. Housing Group Rockshdale Burrowwide Housing says they can't find a contractor to fix it, so no one's going back. This comes right after RBH announced plans to clear out all 229 households from the whole college bank estate within 18 months. Campaigners from Save the Seven Sisters smell a setup, claiming it's a fast-tracked demolition despite RBH's denials. Locals have been fighting this since 2017 when RBH first pushed to tear down four towers. Demolition got scrapped in 2023, but now all options are back on the table amid safety worries from aging 60's error buildings. RBH insists they're all about tenant safety, housing everyone at a hotel like Norton Grange.
