Every team, every topic, everywhere. This is believed.
Hey, hey, thanks again for pressing play. Maybe I need a new intro. I don't know. I need to work on that. Hey, hey, hey. Thanks again for pressing play. Although I've been saying that shit for like seven years.
Welcome to the Sun's Jan Session podcast brought to you by the belief podcast network and Fandall.
I don't know if the Suns were favorite or not, but it certainly didn't feel like they were favorite throughout this entire game.
It was one of those slog fests, if you will. And that's what happens when you play Orlando. They're a gritty, grimy, annoying physical team.
And they out physical the Phoenix Suns tonight. And despite turning the ball over a grand total of 25 times, the Suns could not capitalize.
And the fourth quarter of the Suns once again, the wheels kind of fell off and leaves you with a lot of questions.
And we're going to answer those questions on this edition of the Suns jam session podcast because Dylan Brooks is back yet in the fourth quarter.
We see absolutely no jailing green in a in a quarter where we needed scoring. We could not score.
So we'll talk about that in much more. So make sure you subscribe. Make sure you rate. Make sure you review. If you happen to pop on Apple podcasts, leave us a five star review.
Hell, man, we'll read it right here on the podcast like, for example, want to give a shout out to TJ Bolt gave us five stars and said must listen for any Suns fan.
My son loves the guac nickname. And he's 11. So there you go. So thank you, TJ Bolt for stopping by taking some time out of your day and leaving this review.
Let's get into this game against the Orlando magic. Man, I almost clicked in stream there. That would have been quite funny.
Hey, you're listening to the Suns jam session podcast shooting the shit about the sun since 2019. Matthew Matthew, what's going on?
What's up, Sean? How are you feeling? I have so many questions for you. Like so many. There's a lot. So let's. There's a lot. Let's come up with some.
So Matthew, I got to ask my first question. Should I start at the beginning of the game with the question I have for the front of the game or start at the end of the game with my question I have for the end of the game.
Oh, well, let's start with the beginning if you'd like, because the beginning there was a lot going on. It was why the beginning two minutes. I just fucking everyone a bump in heads. Yeah.
Mayhem. And so that's my first question for you. Were the Suns just too amped to start this game? I think Dylan Brooks was for sure. I think the Suns obviously kind of got behind his mentality. I think the Orlando magic especially Bane like he's a guy likes to get into it with other guys. And it's one of the things where it's like, do you want to really kind of get into it that early?
Like I never seen it where there's text. What was it? Three technicals with the first five seven minutes of the game 1.5 minutes. It was great. I just I don't know what to make of it. I didn't like it. I was not a fan of it. I would rather focus on the game. Like, hey, let's just play basketball. Let's see, because this is the magic. They haven't been the best as of late. This is a team that you should handle and not try to get underneath their skin so early. So I wasn't a fan of the whole beginning. I mean, how did you feel about the whole thing?
The same exact way you know coming into this game that the Orlando magic especially at home are a team with Jalen Suggs and Desmond Bane who like to be irritable. They're very sons like if you will. And I appreciate that because that's how the Suns operate.
Now, obviously, this is the first game where Dylan Brooks is back in uniform. And he came out and he was so like like just amped up like incredible Hulk, you know, it's like the sun sets in the morning or whatever you have to say to call him Bruce Banner down. And and that's where I was kind of frustrated with Devon Booker because Booker needed to be that guiding light that guy who kind of calmed the edges of this team and go, you know what?
I understand that Dylan Brooks is a bucking Bronco, but the rest of us need to ride that energy. We don't need to become that energy. You know, he didn't need to match the chaos. He needed to control it.
He needed to be the thermostat, not the temperature in my opinion. And within a minute and a half, Dylan Brooks gets a technical foul 17 on the year. So next one that happens will be another suspension.
Both he and Devon Booker have two fouls within the first three minutes of the game.
And it's not how you want to start your night where you're on the road. And good battering different. This game really matters for the Phoenix Suns because with this loss knowing that the Clippers play Portland later tonight. And that's a big game.
If you're a Suns fan after this podcast, go check out that 8 p.m. Start in Portland because if the if the Clippers beat Portland one, it puts a more separation between them trying to obtain the eight seed. And then with six games left.
The Suns are only up to on the Clippers. And so it was it was not from a emotional control standpoint. I feel like the Suns failed in that capacity.
Yeah, no, you're absolutely right. And it's it's scary because you go into these games thinking the Suns should handle business. And they should beat the beat the magic. You looked at this four game stretch like the bulls, the magic, the hornets.
Who did they put it last night? Sorry, the Grizzlies, the Grizzlies, bum brush them in the fourth quarter because they're clearly tanking.
They're it's just it doesn't make sense to where I'm coming into these games. They can like, wow, they might have extra lose the first quarter like my stomach's like, I think they're going to lose this game, not because of the first two minutes.
But because you can see that Dylan Brooks is still kind of getting his feet underneath them. It's going to take some time. Maybe a couple games. Book just didn't seem like the leader. We needed him to beat tonight. He had 34 points. And then you just had other guys like good winner, sheer that stepped up big time off the obviously defensively.
Obviously hitting few shots, but come on. I shouldn't play more than three minutes. He didn't play three minutes tonight. So there was a lot of weird stuff that happened early in the first half in the whole first half that had me thinking like, this is definitely not a game they're going to win because either
they're not experimenting knowing that maybe they're just going to get the seventh seed or the fact that he's experimenting in a way where he's trying to get things right together for the playoffs.
Or maybe he's just actually like not only was supposed to do out there the second half of the season has been that way without where he's made a lot of bad decisions down the line of the other games.
And he just can't really trust him right now, especially when the team is just sticking by these teams that they should be, I feel like. Yeah.
So for example over the past month of the team not executing in the final minutes against a team or in a situation where they could be successful enough to win. And I know that in previous situations health was a factor that we could lean into.
And it's something that we could go you know what we were without a B and C player. Therefore, although it sucks that we lost this game a lot of the spurs, it's still understandable because the talent isn't out there.
Other than Mark Williams, man, the talent was out there tonight and it might take Dylan Brooks time to get underneath or his legs underneath him relatively speaking, although as you know the broadcasting note notated before the game began.
This was a hand injury so his conditioning is fine because he's been conditioning it's not a lower tissue issue right it wasn't a hamstring or a calf strain where your legs aren't going to be underneath you for quite some time.
It's not going to take necessarily as long for Dylan Brooks to recover and that brings me to my first grade.
Kind of along the lines of what you're talking about and a lot of confusion at least for me are the decisions of Jordan.
This is the Orlando magic. This is a team that is big, long and physical.
Come on, Mala watch played three minutes in a game in which also Iga Dora was in foul trouble in the third.
I opted to when they've got palo band caro, Wendell Carter Jr. Everybody's big and long on that team except Desmond Bay and he's got tiny little T Rex arms.
Everybody on that team is long and he opted to go with small ball lineups in here where there was no Mala watch who only played three minutes had two blocks in those three minutes he look good.
Did he miss a defensive assignment. Yes, you don't pull the kid for the rest of the game because everybody was missing fucking defensive assignments tonight.
The team looked poor all around you look at the fourth quarter.
The sons go seven of 24 in the fourth, which is 29% two of 10 from beyond the arc. There's no jailing green minutes. There's no also Iga Dora minutes.
It's 10 minutes of Dylan Brooks and poor decision making seven minutes of Devon Booker being passive.
Devon Booker was not initiating offense. What his goal was was to pull the gravity of the team or the opposing teams defense and then pass and let open shooters take open shots.
They did they missed them. So for all the people who've had their panties up in a bunch because Devon Booker missed that three pointer against Denver last week's like well why the fuck do we pay him.
Somebody else should take that. It needs to be flowing basketball at the end of the game. There needs to be no isolation. We fucking did that tonight.
And he passed out of multiple situations and Grayson Allen, O of three from beyond or one of three from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter.
We're sheer flaming O of one Royce and Neil O of one Colin Gillespie O of O of one Dylan Brooks O of two.
There was the and that's just from three point land Dylan Brooks was one of seven in the quarter Grayson two of five.
Goodwin O of two Gillespie O of one.
Devon Booker was the only offense that was good tonight and he was doing what everybody's kind of been on the Twitter threads and you know in the comments like do you do much ISO heavy booker man.
It bit them in the ass combined with the fact that you're not decided to completely go away from size against a team that possesses size and can't shoot make it make sense Matthew.
Oh god, the jailing green things kind of weird like there's two things with this that the confidence meter like if you're come on like you're taking out of the game early in the first.
When he comes in he has a two blocks. He looks excellent. I guess he had one Mrs. I might even notice like he said defensively the sons gave up 70 points in the first half right so they're good.
There's no defense there at all.
That was one thing that was really weird and the confidence of Gling Green to what is that in the fourth quarter I look on Twitter just to see if there was an injury if you had a foul trouble.
He only had I think one foul so it's one thing that you kind of hit the confidence and hit them in the gut kind of in the fourth quarter.
How's your team going to respond how are these guys going to respond in reports or to the reporters after the game when they're asked a question like how can we didn't play what happened.
They're not going to ask come on they're asking you the green.
How what's going to be his response because he wants to be involved yet he did not have this best shooting night but the last five games.
He's been efficient. He's been a guy that's really flowing in the offense.
I feel like he needs to be out there the size thing doesn't doesn't make any sense to me.
I think he did this earlier in the season where he had like the small ball minus where I thought he was just trying to have these guys go out there and hit the reason and the game.
It kind of felt like that in the fourth quarter where it's like he just kind of having guys out there to knock down three is everybody was missing their shots.
Like he said to have a book or was setting guys up at times but they just weren't hitting their shots.
It wasn't an offense that I was watching the fourth quarter where I was confident they're going to pull off man like there is just a feeling you get.
And it happens early in the season where I knew they're going to win or they're going to pull out I can feel it.
This game like they're not going to make their shots are not going to win this there's not a flow.
There's not a confidence these guys have within each other to get this thing done.
He just could not feel it.
So I put that all on not he should he made too many different decisions not just having these guys come in in big minutes.
I come on a green green to keep things simple and win a game.
I just don't know what he was doing out there.
Yeah, and it's a situation where if you look at what Orlando was doing they were getting themselves open three point looks they just weren't hitting them the sons for the most part had contested three is all night.
And again that's kind of what ought does and I know that this is part of the Phoenix Suns identities they shoot three years they shoot threes and when they don't hit their threes obviously they're going to lose.
And that's the only reason they beat Memphis is all the sudden they decided to start hitting their threes in the fourth quarter.
So almost like the expectation was we're going to run back the same script as we did against Memphis last night.
If we go small we know that Jordan Goodwin plays above his weight class.
But when he's down there guarding Wendell Carter Jr on numerous plays I might do this like I get what you're trying to do but this is one of those situations.
And this is one of those games where I feel like Jordan is just getting a little too cute for his own bridges.
And he needs to have secondary and tertiary options within the the offense that are not just us trying to seek a three the entire time have something where we go to the basket have a pin down screen and then let them booker come off a back screen and just hit you know 17 foot midi which is where he cooks but it was almost as if.
It's almost as if the sons and Jornat listens to the pod because we've talked about these situations against Boston for example we're late in the game the they we knew they knew they being the Boston Celtics they knew that Devon Booker was going to get the ball so they double the living shit out of him and we talked about Devon Booker should initiate on the second or tertiary actions and that's what he did tonight but he wasn't initiating to score he was initiating to draw gravity and find open shooters and in the fourth they did find open shooters and like I said.
They didn't knock down the shots now obviously just comes a completely different conversation if they knock down the shots but I do go back to the thing that is bothering the live and shit out of me and I just want to know why Jornat hates calm on Mala watch because the kid this is a great situation for him to learn this is a good team for him to learn against why because they're a big team but they're not huge and I know that sounds weird but like you put him against.
Devita Zubots that guy's big and huge. Wendell Carter's big but he's more like a Mark Williams archetype he's long and he's a little skinnier.
You know Bancaro has some girth to him but he's shorter and I feel like having him out there in those situations at least I can sit there and go you know what he learned something from this.
None of this nothing was learned tonight the only thing that we walk away from his fresh is frustration.
There was one play in the first half. Well obviously only play the first half in the first quarter.
It was a dump off pass from Devon Booker in the paint and it was a terrible pass.
That's horrible set up and Booker got upset like why don't you fall in the catch it like terrible pass.
It was a dead blood so pass right in the air trying to wrap around the guy and come on like oh shit and it wasn't a good.
It didn't even hit him come on you know I don't even know what happened there and like you could tell Booker was frustrated so I like the next play though on defense.
Our offense he bats it back out to Booker for a second chance opportunity on the next possession.
And usually like guys that that happens so maybe they might get down about themselves like man I just fucked up like I didn't catch your books upset.
This guy was flying through the air on on block shots he was coming up on fast breaks doing it like.
He is such a difference maker out there man it's hard to watch a second quarter.
And you're just waiting around for him to come in and he just doesn't come in and the second half it's like what is going on like again I looked at Twitter.
And I was like is there something I'm missing here because that's how we feel as sons fans there's 100% of us want come on in the second half in the fourth quarter playing 100% of us to I don't think there's one person I don't know I like the small ball lineup.
I know I like what they were doing there's no way this is what we want to see.
And this is what ought to give us and I don't understand why he's not because we're out there without our big that's been playing phenomenal and I don't understand why you kind of negate that and you just make it so.
We're playing a small ball game of offensive rebounds or.
Just giving a layup say it was just frustrating to watch did and that's why tonight feels like a double loss.
Because we lost the game but we also lost an opportunity to give come on model watch developmental minutes.
You know I wrote this whole article on bright side four or five days ago talking about we're at this unique time where he could be banking those minutes.
And when also a good or has five fouls he should be out there because Mark Williams is going to come walking through the door and about two or three games is my guess right and then next thing you know you can no longer really justify the common model much minutes right you're going to go with the talent and the experience above him.
And so right right now is when he should be playing and it just again if it frustrates the living shit out of me.
So I give on an F a big fat F he's a fought fought for us tonight man just not not a fan of what he did will not a fan of what he did what do you think.
I give him enough and it's been terrible because I never really care to mention his name at all this year except for coach of the year maybe candidate but the last few weeks man he's been a D he's been an F he's been a C he's been making constant bad decisions and especially the last three seconds of the game.
There's nobody in the fucking back court in a guy grabs the ball Wagner whatever it runs two seconds so he's foul because there's no one back there yeah to kind of keep these guys pin down and I was like what is going on dude he's setting these guys up for failure but it's not only him these guys should know bookers should know race now should know there's no one in the back court like yeah
it's the whole team right now you have guys coming back it's going to take time it really is especially there's no time left it's no time it's a seven what six games left now yeah six games left all right well let's grade this guy in his return
Dylan Brooks 22 minutes played four of 13 from the field one of three from beyond the arc five total rebounds five personal fouls nine total points and as I mentioned a little bit earlier in the fourth quarter one of seven from the field
what do you grade Dylan Brooks in his return and how do you feel about having him return. That's an F for fuck off like I just was I was done already as soon as he was in the game I was just kind of tired of it because I think the sun's games as of late they kind of bring me back to last year without Dylan Brooks playing obviously he's been injured for so long and it's just been like kind of muddled and you're just watching his games thinking that they're going to lose every game because you just don't have the same feeling as you didn't begin the year he comes back I was kind of expecting that
but I feel like him starting off that way I just was it was not attractive at all I was not excited about the sun's pulled off it's fine that they win this game but doing it that early and then having a missed shot like he had in the game behind the backboard when he was talking shit and then Desmond game bane hits the little fade away off the glass to win the game and then Dylan Brooks before that is missing that shot from me on the backboard it's just it's embarrassing it's totally embarrassing as a fan base in the game
in the game behind the backboard when people are talking shit and then Desmond game Bane hits the
the little fade away off the glass to win the game and then Dylan Brooks before that is missing
that shot from me on the backboard. It's just it's embarrassing. It's totally embarrassing as a fan
base to have your guys out there talking shit so early to start the game and then it comes down
to that and you can't pull it off because I don't count on these guys. I don't count on Booker
to finish this game. I don't count on Dylan Brooks obviously with the way you're shooting tonight.
To finish this game but the way he ended it ugly man and the way he started it just disrespectful
to I feel like myself and the rest of it as a fan base we are excited to have
Dylan Brooks back because he is the soul of this team and he instant you know and we talked
about all seasons the conversation we obviously haven't had for the past 18 games because he's
missed the last 18 games the sons have gone nine and nine in his absence uh and it's something
that we always talk about the 85 15 role with Dylan Brooks 85% of the time you love what he does
15% of the time you hate what he does tonight it was flipped 85% of the time I hated what he was
doing right off the bat again like I said getting a technical foul in the first minute and a half
getting two fouls taking himself ultimately out of the game poor shot selection and as you mentioned
you know both him and Booker chirping and not having the ability to back up the talk right you
know there's nothing worse than guys who can't walk the talk and it feels like that's a
a character flaw in Phoenix when's the last time we had a guy who could back like it was Charles
Barclay in 93 he's the last guy who talked shit and backed it up we don't have a long history of
guys you talk shit and can back it up Chris Paul did when he got us you know to the finals but even
then he was injured and we ultimately didn't win but to see just that again that instant instant
reminder of you're like oh yeah the the the things that we don't like about Dylan Brooks are
instantly on display like couldn't we have gone a quarter and a half of him just playing hard
nose defense and and you know getting under you know like because this is the perfect team for
him to go against for that reason right this is you want to fight fire with fire but you don't
need to come out just chucking bombs you know like just fucking play within the conference he's a
it's a D for me uh an F in the fourth quarter because again I just it reverted back to oh Dylan's
gonna take shitty shots and that like you said that last shot he took was so fucking horrible it was
just horrible shot selection by Dylan Brooks him try to bring the ball up to a few times it seemed
like a travel at one time today they're just like yeah just let him go um it was brutal to watch
and that's that's what happens when you're a guy that has been gone for so long and you come back
and you're trying to make the shots to either win the game pull your team within uh what's
tying the game but it's just it's one of those things where you're watching this and you're from
afar obviously and you're just thinking like what is it like on the court right now with this team
because Brooks is back Devon Booker's just pissed off talking shit to Desmond Bane
Malay watch and and Jelene Green are on the bench in the fourth quarter and it's just it's like
I don't understand what what what is it like right down the locker room is a chemistry and all
that stuff's still good like I that's what I'm scared of because it's so so quickly so quickly you
can turn around right I think that coaches can lose the locker room quickly and that's what I
keep worrying about with these type of dudes in the locker room like so it's just I feel like
it's a fine line that I'm not worried about that as much because I think there's a connectivity
with this team and and I forget who talked about it earlier this season uh it was the former
Brent Berry former you know coach with the suns uh through last season there's a hierarchy
this season that didn't exist last year and that's why the sun struggled is there was no hierarchy
there was kind of like Kevin Durant was around Devon Booker was around but no one really took
ownership from a leadership perspective uh and when there's no hierarchy and there's no respect
that's where challenges occur I don't I don't worry about this with this team because I think
there's a definite hierarchy uh the team feels like it's Devon Booker's team and the feet and the
team feels like Dylan Brooks is their leader right it's like that's mom and dad you know and they
respect Jordan out as a as a young coach because again this is a lot of young guys on this team
and so they haven't developed those calluses to what a toxic locker room could be I just don't
think that exists I think this is a poor game relative to uh coaching without a doubt execution
of what of the schemes but I don't think it hurts the locker room in the long term
okay yeah it's just something I worry about because I think that you know we're very excited right
now as a fan base for this year how it ends it doesn't really matter because we're off to a good
star and that's all you really need with the first year to or not but I don't know it's just it's
a weird kind of feeling I have after today's game so
only 20 minutes of play tonight for Jalen Green now granted he was three of 10 from the field
in 0-5 from beyond the arc uh had one cyst had four turnovers I mean it was not a good Jalen
Green night let's it's just one you know again we've talked about it I talked about it all
last night's pod you know enjoy the the Jalen Green experience when it's good but know that it will
come crashing down tonight it comes crashing down but still why do you think he wasn't
played at all in the fourth quarter what from afar again I'm from afar looking on watching TV uh
he's on the moon I think that it's one thing where we can think like obviously he's he's cold
he's turned them over like he said and it's like maybe it's a good call for him not to play him it's
just not his night but if he's gonna be one of our main guys and continue to be a starter I feel like
it's kind of weird because he can hit it for one quarter and I have the confidence in Jalen Green
now after the last five game stretch especially the last three games or four games I'm just like I
feel like he needs to be in there in crunch time no matter what like they all have bad games book
or always does too but if he's gonna be one of our main dudes I think he needs to be in there that's
why I was worried about the confidence like it's it starts with Jalen Green talking to the media
and how he feels about this I don't know if it's gonna be a thing or not but I do worry with the
guy like him who seems a little bit more sensitive after the trade from Houston like this guy wants
to prove himself and not playing the fourth I want to hear what the story is so I do too and that's
the big one for me is what happened to Jalen Green you know and I like as we're speaking I'm
looking at Dwayne Rankin and seeing if there's anything that he's tweeted since then nothing
nothing yet you know because again if this is a guy who you're gonna pay $36 million next season
he needs to be in this situation you know and this team unbelievably struggled with scoring in the
final quarter and he can score he can get to the basket he you know what the whole team had a bad
game last year or last game for the first three quarters and then they pulled it out in the fourth
that was an opportunity here so again I'm very interested to see what some of the post-game
quotes are on this one because I just found a lot of things very very odd
the booker 34 points tonight seven assists four turnovers he was eight of 16 from the field two
of six from beyond the arc 16 of 19 from the free throw line we haven't even talked about the
officiating yet in this game but again as I mentioned you know he's he's eight of 16 from the field
but he's only two of four in the fourth quarter why didn't Devin Booker take over is it because he
listens to the podcast and then and Twitter and everybody's saying we're too busy centric at the
added games and then he's like okay I'll just pass the whole time well now we need Booker it's
just oh man it's exhausting I mean I've always been the guy to say that he can't take over I feel like
I'm the one that always says I don't believe in him in the fourth to take over hit the big shots
I think the game what was it the game you hit good free throws are big free throws in the fourth
hit a rough game and it was down in this rough stretch of like four or five games but it was
big free throws in the end to tie the game that was a huge kind of comeback for him in the fourth
but I just don't have that feeling with him I don't feel anything for Booker anymore as of late as
our guy I know he is our guy obviously Devin Booker guy but I'm talking about a guy to really
win us games or oh once he taken over he has a 34 points tonight he's been obviously scoring heavy
the last few weeks but I just I don't feel it on the core I don't really I can't I don't know it's
one of those things where I'm watching and I'm just looking for him to do something but it's not
even that anymore it's just a guy out there playing at a team ball and he's not going to be the one
that really has the ball in the end I feel like it's always going to be Dylan Brooks or maybe
Jalen Green but book to me is just not a guy I just I care about as much anymore I know it's
hard to say and hard to hear that but I just I don't I get frustrated at him more you're not alone
you're not alone and again that's what makes tonight interesting because everything that you
all the faith that you don't have in Devin Booker was personified tonight because he wasn't
relied on to be the guy and this is the result so it's like one of those damned if you do damned
if you don't situations right because he's two or four from the field and and he actually in
actuality is one of three he took a late three that kind of didn't matter and he hit it you know
in the same breath but this is the challenge and this will always be the challenge with the
Phoenix sons with Devin Booker on it and it's something that I talk about you and I talk about
quite often how you know we love Devin Booker for who he is and what he means to this team
but when Devin Booker is your primary guide there's this very specified ceiling that he has
and when you try to compliment him and your second best player on the team is technically the same
position as Devin Booker is it makes you question what the ultimate ceiling is for him and what his
career could be and so again I think that the the interesting thing about tonight was after many
fans express frustrations much akin to yourself in which they don't have faith in Devin Booker
late in games that they think that the sons become too heliocentric around what he does
tonight they passed out of Devin Booker situations and the team around him missed so again it's
just kind of this it's his ultimate catch 22 yeah oh here we go so you got it
so so special panda four four one in the chat says from Duane Rankin just now
geornats that jaylen green wasn't hurt saying they just went small and stayed small he's six four
he's pretty small yeah he's a small he's one of the smallest guys on the team man i'm gonna have fun
with this article tomorrow this is this is a tough one to hear i'm telling you right now there's
gonna be something here i don't think you can keep doing this where you don't play like a mark
Williams or jaylen green in the fourth quarters when they're starting the game for you and i
feel like they think that they're the guy uh so it's gonna be tough i think to kind of rebound from
this what we see how we'll see how they do it they're mature if jaylen green is mature that's fine but
just a quick thing on Devin Booker um i kind of wish that maybe he's set up in a different system
to see how he would actually i instead of playing on a team word you do have jaylen green i kind of
wish he was just the two guard and you had a real point guard yeah just just that brings me to
another guy though that brings me to another guy your villain junior is calling galaspie
and we're doing a horrible job grading these guys by the way uh no grades at all
Devin Booker my give him a see i give him an a tonight man okay he he once again just like last
night he carried the team he carried this team offensive yeah he had a solid offensive night
no one around him could hit shit uh calling galaspie right so everybody in in a perfect world
everyone's like hey calling is your it he's your point guard of the future right uh the challenge
that i had with calling and and i i was thinking about it especially after i spoke a lot last night
about how the sons can easily be owned in the paint and that's one of the challenges of playing
oh so igidoro as much as you do he's not a great rim protector and if your front line can't guard
or is getting blown by you rely on oh so and teams know that and that's what Memphis did the majority
of the game they just attacked the paint over and over again of their first 89 points through
three quarters 55 of their points came in the paint right that was their plan of attack uh to
the reason for that the reason why the sons are so weak in the paint is one oh so which is
understandable second round pick i'm not mad at that but calling galaspie is kind of a traffic
home i don't know how many people really talk about that you know his perimeter defense has shown
vulnerability against quicker guards first step containment has been inconsistent all year for him
and when you start to look at the offensive side of the of the ball and again you know
tonight not a horrible night but not a great night four of eight from the field he had 11 points
three assists uh two or two turnovers a couple steals i think that he's a good guard coming off
the bench i think that that's the role he should be playing is is the guy coming off the bench i've
been saying that for a while now ever since Gavin brought it up actually on a on one of our
podcasts and i agree with that because while as much as we love galaspie and how he's overperformed
expectations this year at the end of the day him overformed overperforming expectations means that
he is a rotational backup point guard not the starting point guard of a team yeah i think the
the starting line is to me right now this is what i would put out there obviously when you're
starting the three guys the three guards it's not going to look good it's not going to look
on paper but also on the core it's been such a struggle i feel like and if you're starting jailing
green and booker together didn't put brooks out there with oh so and i want to see malle watch
at the center or mark Williams i want to see oh so with the power forward just let me see what that
looks like because the guys are great pastor he can set guys up maybe on the screen and he can hit
maybe guys for lobs because it just wouldn't make more sense with the size and i don't know it's a
frustrating thing with the holistic because you know something's there but i think next year is really
where he hits his peak and next year it's a full opportunity if it's here or wherever to be a
starting point guard i think he's gonna be a good backup but i think he has the potential to be a
good starter man like i think it's there he's just never played this much yeah and there's
hasn't been this much on his shoulders so it's been a long season for a man so whatever happens to
him i think he's he's kind of working needs to be right now on this team as a starter but out of
the bench we'll see we have to do it now though yeah a way to the play and and lose two games
over out agree completely agree you know i hope for good things i want great things for him
and and i'm just like you like obviously a best case scenario you see he is our starting point guard
and he does have that ice in his vein but he does need to improve a little bit on the defensive
end and not let quick guys go by him and and if you'd ask me who i want my starting five to be
it'd be green uh booker brooks and then i would go ahead and put uh reshear flaming at the
four and oh so at the five that would be nice until mark Williams is back and then i kind of
go into your yeah like yeah put him put oh so at the four and put mark Williams at the five
because he can stretch the floor a little bit he can't stretch the four a lot yeah exactly
all right well it's seven thirty i think i told you before the pot i had to take off
Matthew's gonna take my jam star before i go oh yeah here's what we'll we'll go backwards just
jam star of the game all right who's your jam star Matthew come on malo watch the best two
minutes or three minutes of my life it was awesome those blocks dude god i was like we haven't
had this in forever it was and it was great because there was one where he goga the tosses
down there and he pump fakes and he pumps like three times and and malo watch a stanza with his hand
and when he finally goes up he's like get out of here and there was another one i forget who
was driving the hoop i think it was jaylin sugs and he you know blue by colin go less beer whoever
the fuck was the point of attack defender and he's throwing up a layup in man malo watches a getoff
but teams are not looking out for that teams are thinking like once i get past this guy no one's
gonna block my shot but come on he's making a name for himself right now like teams have to
realize you gotta get that shot up quick which is us because we see that from winby and obviously
winby's dollar but winby's that guy or who is like well where's he at come on might be that guy
next year i hope so so i hope so thank you thank you Matthew for hanging out i'll continue to
show without you i'm going to go right into the subreddit stakeout
the sun's jam session subreddit stakeout
brought to you by nettles air conditioning
you need a unit we've got you covered nettles airs i come is where to go brother call six two three four four
forty eight and nettles air makes your home feel great woo i got myself a new uh
sons cup i've been drinking out of the same sons cups for literally like ten seasons so i went
to the game the other night i'm like you know what i'ma spend thirteen dollars for a sons cup
so there you go not a lot going on in the magic uh
subreddit uh they were bitching a lot about jalen carter uh and again remember that uh this
is a team that just lost by 52 a team that gave up a record record 31 to nothing run against the
Toronto Raptors 31 there was three timeouts and we lost to this team and here's what they have to say
man i don't give a fuck i love Brooks's attitude so much more entertaining
i guess the sun's chose violence today okay fuck it let's go
sons insanely chippy in the first 90 seconds why good lord
hilarious that the sun's began the game talking shit to us as if we needed more motivation
after last game they really can't read the room 100% man this is an unsufferable to watch
just an endless string of whistles officiating in this was i mean what do we have
76 free throws in this game if you didn't watch you're lucky the first half took an hour and a half
fucking bullshit uh and then the last thing that they said in the subreddit for the Orlando
magic is something that i remember us saying last year it's kind of funny holy shit i can't say
it enough that this team is a disgrace don't even care if this ends up in a win they are so pathetic
and undisciplined with the basketball and have a general lack of basketball like you that is so
sickening it makes them almost unwatchable so glad this season is close to over
the sun's jam session sub reddit st- forgot
sounds like a lot of the uh juvenile magic fans are in a similar place we were this time last year
all right i'm gonna take a quick look at the comments before i talk about what's next and then get
get out of here, Tata tata tata tata tata tata tata tata tata
not much, much.
All right, well up next for the SUNES,
or my GMsterdam's book if I didn't already say that,
uvnex for the SUNES, man, we play this start of Hornets.
You know, again, now we goin' to score board watching
because Portland plays Clippers tonight
based on the result of that,
either we romaine three games ahead of them,
which is great, but if not
two games ahead.
You know, the Hornets are an easy pushover team
team. It's a team that we will play on Thursday, a team that you have to watch out for, man,
it's a good basketball team. It's a team that the Suns beat already this year in an impressive
game. Probably our last really good impressive game in my opinion. That was like two and a half
weeks ago. But it's a team that's going to shoot threes. They've got talent all over the
place. They're young. They're hungry. They're going to play with energy. You know, the Suns
play with the same energy, which is great. But the Suns need to play with control. And
that was the challenge again tonight is they didn't play with control. They didn't play
mature basketball. So we'll see what happens with that game. That's all I really have
for tonight. Appreciate everyone's stopping by. Make sure that you subscribe, rate, review,
we'll be live on Thursday, another early game. It's like that's a four o'clock tip in
Charlotte. So four o'clock, our time, seven o'clock, their time. So make sure you tune
in after that. And everyone, thanks for hanging out. Go home.
Hey, you're listening to the sun's damn session podcast shooting the shit about the sun
since 2019.
