Miami Dolphins Release QB Tua Tagovailoa

The Miami Dolphins are releasing quarterback Tuha Tago-Viloa after six seasons with the team. General manager John Eric Sullivan made the announcement on Monday with the move set for after 4pm Eastern Daylight Time on Wednesday when the New League gear begins. It comes with a post-June first designation and a record-dead salary cap hit of $99.2 million, spread over two years. Tago-Viloa, now 28 years old, finished his Dolphins career with a 44 and 32 record as a starter. He threw for 18,166 yards, 120 touchdowns, and 59 interceptions. He earned a pro bowl nod in 2023 when Miami had the NFL's top offense and he led the league in passer rating in 2022. Passing yards in 2023 and completion percentage in 2024.

1:00Sullivan praised Tago-Viloa's contributions on the field and in the community, saying he has great respect for the player and person. Tago-Viloa shared a heartfelt farewell on Instagram, thinking teammates, coaches, fans, and his faith. He expressed regret over not delivering a championship, but said South Florida will always hold a special place in his heart. Injuries, especially multiple concussions, kept him out often, and he was benched late in the most recent season by then, coach Mike McDaniel, who was fired in January. This year, over 14 starts, he completed 67.7% of his passes for 2660 yards, 20 touchdowns, and a career high 15 picks. Looking ahead, Sullivan plans to be very active in the quarterback market and bring competition across the roster to build a sustained winner.
