Mexican Immigrant Dies in ICE Custody

0:00I'm Cory with the story, and this is your Pulse of the City, Durham News Today. A 19-year-old Mexican immigrant died in federal immigration custody this week. Roye Perez-Hemenes passed away on March 16th at the Glades County Detention Center in more Haven, Florida. Officials say this is the 44th such death during the Second Trump Administration. Eyes-notified lawmakers about the incident calling it a presumed suicide. The official cause remains under investigation as they review the details. Perez-Hemenes first crossed into the United States for Mexico on February 19th, 2022. He got voluntary return at that time, but came back across the border on an unknown date later on. He faced arrest in Florida for felony fraud involving impersonation, plus a misdemeanor charge for resisting an officer. I see put a detainer on him right away and move him into custody on February 21st, 2026. This is a developing situation, with more information expected soon.
