Mets Trim Roster, Focus on Opening Day

The New York Mets made some roster cuts after their 4-3 spring training win over the Houston Astros on Sunday. They optioned right-handed pitcher Alex Carrillo to triple A Syracuse and reassigned left-handers Anderson Severino and Matt Turner to minor league. This leaves 70 players in the Mets major league camp as they narrowed down the squad. Carrillo, a 28-year-old, had a solid one inning this spring with just one hit and one walk aloud. Severino, 31, pitched two innings over two games giving up one hit while striking out two. Turner, 26, worded three innings across three outings allowing one hit and fanning five. Last season with the Mets, Carrillo appeared in three games, posting a rough 4.2 innings with six hits and seven runs, but he did strike out four. These moves help the team focus on final preparations with opening day approaching in late March.
