Mets Sign Pitcher Dan Hammer

They just signed pitcher Dan Hammer to a two-year minor league deal. This 28-year-old right-hander from Philadelphia throws his fastball up to 97 miles per hour. Hammer got drafted in the 13th round by the Baltimore Orioles back in 2019 out of the University of Pittsburgh. Last year he pitched in double A for the Tampa Bay Rays organization. His minor league career shows some promise mixed with struggles. He has never reached AAA with a career ERA around 5.34. In 31 outings last season, that number set at 6.57, what stands out is his strikeout ability. Hammer averages 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings throughout the minors. The big challenge for him has been control and too many walks. The Metz see potential here and hope to refine his command without dimming that swing and
