Mets Outfield prospect AJ Ewing is turning heads in spring training with the same goal as last year, dominate wherever he plays. The 21-year-old climbed from low A to double A last season and has impressed manager Carlos Mendoza early on. Ewing stole 70 bases across three levels while focusing on getting on base and using his speed. Mendoza sharpened his approach at the plate, learning to hit more line drives instead of lifting the ball. On Friday against Miami, he singled, stole second, and made a diving catch and left field. Mendoza called his jump on the ball impressive, noting it looked like a hit off the bat. Mendoza praised Ewing's speed for setting up teammates, and he's not alone in shining. Outfielder Carson Binge is competing for the right field jaw with strong at-bats, especially against lefties, solid defense, and smart base running. The left-handed hitter even pulled a homer the other way with two strikes.
