Mets Piggyback Manaea in Bullpen

The New York Mets have decided to start the season with left-hander Sean Manaya working out of the bullpen in a piggyback role following right behind. The main starters for the first couple of turns through the rotation. Manager Carlos Mendoza explained that the team has six pitchers throwing really well right now, so they had to make some tough calls on roles. Especially after picking up Freddie Peralta from the Milwaukee Brewers in January. The opening rotation will feature Peralta, David Peterson, Nolan McLean, Clay Holmes and Coda Senga giving the Mets a deep group of arms to handle. The early schedule, the 34-year-old Manaya, who signed the $75 million three-year deal after a strong 2024 season, has mostly been a starter in his career with 210 starts out of 243 games, though he struggled last year with a 5.64 earned run average.

1:03Mendoza added that extra off days mean they likely won't need a six-starter right away, but Manaya will get his chances to start soon as the season rolls on.
