Mets Lose Both Spring Training Games, Prepare for Final Tune-Up

The Mets wrapped up their split squad spring training gains with losses in both, falling seven to five to the Astros at home, and three to one to the Nationals on the road. In Port St. Lucie, starter Jonah Tongue had a bumpy second inning that put the Mets in a three-nothing hole, but he settled down after that. The Mets rallied in the sixth with a bassist clearing double from Marcus Cimian and took a brief lead, only for the Astros to pull ahead late with a thigh, three run homer and some Mets miscues. Pitching held strong for stretches, with Ophrety Gomez, Daniel Duarte, and Joe Jacques tossing scoreless frames, though Ryan Lambert struggled in the eighth. Over in the away game, Juonder Suarez dominated with four scoreless innings, and reliever Will Watson kept things tight. Mark Vientos gave the Mets a one-nothing lead with a solo homer in the eighth, but the Nationals tied it, and then won it with a two-run shot in the ninth.
