The Indiana Hoosiers football team that won the national championship now has several players eyeing spots in the 2026 NFL draft. Leading the group is quarterback Fernando Mendoza, a standout who just wrapped up an incredible college career. Mendoza took home the Heisman Trophy and helped deliver that title for Indiana. Experts see him going number one overall, a pick held by the Las Vegas Raiders right now. The Raiders started Geno Smith at quarterback last season, but they plan to release him unless they find a trade partner first. That move would free of $8 million in salary cap space, even with $18.5 million in dead money hitting the books. Team Insiders say Las Vegas does not want to throw Mendoza into the starting role right away. Instead, they will likely sign a veteran quarterback to mentor him from the sideline early on. No matter what, Mendoza shapes up as the franchise quarterback for the Raiders long term.
