About this episode
Medical misinformation has been brought to the forefront of the conversation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. From the nightly news to social media, everyone is trying to figure out a way to lessen the damaging effects of harmful information plaguing the internet. But what about true scientific debate? How do we differentiate between medical misinformation that has the potential to truly hurt people and scientific debate that could test what we know and continue to improve upon the foundation of medical science?
In this episode, I discuss the importance of being able to distinguish between the two through two historical case studies. One shows the importance of challenging medical information with science in the name of progress, while the other showcases the danger of misinformation that goes unchallenged in the name of profit.
