Right now, the state has zero confirmed cases, but neighboring areas are seeing more. Across the country, 1,200 cases have popped up in 27 states as of yesterday. To get ready, the Department of Public Health is training doctors and nurses. Many have never dealt with measles before, so the focus is on spotting early signs like a respiratory infection. The illness can turn serious fast, starting with cold-bike symptoms, then spots inside the mouth, and finally a full-body rash. This year alone, 3 people have died from it, and cases are rising sharply after years of being rare. Meanwhile, officials are stepping up their game with in-house testing.
