The 41-year-old pitcher through a bullpen session during spring training on Monday, even before the team made it official. Manager John Schneider confirmed the news and watched the session closely. Schneider said Scherzer will throw again on Wednesday and might pitch in an exhibition game next weekend. The veteran had already been working out with free agent hitters on his own time.
