Massive Moorland Fire Near Snake Pass Summit

0:00On May 2nd, Firefighters are wrapping up Day 3 at a massive Moorland blaze near Snape Pass Summit in the Peak District. The fire kicked off late Thursday night and crews far hard. All Day Friday, May 1st, to get it contained. By evening, they had it under control after it spread across 900,000 square meters of rugged terrain. Multiple teams jumped in, including Firefighters from Derby Shire, Greater Manchester and Yorkshire, plus local gamekeepers, landowners, and mountain rescuers. They used beaters, water backpacks, hose reels, and even a helicopter dumping reservoir water to battle the flames. Smoked from the fire drifted far, with folks in Greater Manchester spots like Tamicide, Oldham, Stockport, Little Halton, and Atherton catching whiffs. During the day, residents near Glossow got told to seal out windows and doors because of the thick plume rolling their way. Officials with Derby Shire fire and rescue confirmed the fire was under control by 8.15 pm Friday, and they reopened the A57 Snake Pass Road
