Martin the Pine Marten's Rescue & Release

0:00On May 1st, a tiny two-week-old Pine Martin got pulled from a band in Powys Wales after losing its two siblings. This rare UK mammal, now nicknamed Martin by staff at Vale Wildlife Hospital in Gloucestershire, weighs just over 100 grams and is getting. Top-notch care to survive. At first, rescuer's thada was a hedgehog cub, but they called in experts from Scotland to confirm it was a Pine Martin and get feeding tips. One can't see or hear yet, has no teeth, and needs milk every two hours from 6am to midnight. Wildlife assistant Laura Polly has been his main caretaker, calling it beautiful to watch him grow, especially since she'd never seen one before. It's been amazing but exhausting work around the clock. He's building strength daily, and soon he'll switch to solid food in an outdoor enclosure to learn climbing, nesting, and foraging skills.
