Martin Rejects Public Inquiry into Limerick Garda Prosecution

In January, a jury cleared four serving guardi and the retired superintendent of 39 charges following an eight-week trial while the state dropped charges against the other three this week, leading to all seven officers being reinstated. The Guard of Representative Association is pushing hard for an independent review, pointing to the fallout on police morale in the area. Martin acknowledged the low spirits among Limerick guardi, but stressed that the courts already handled the matter fully. He emphasized the director of public prosecutions must state independent, warning against lengthy inquiries as a knee-jerk response to tough cases.
