1:02Well, the Marlins fall 6-5 with the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night. And there's plenty to expand on from that, because there were opportunities all over the place for the Cubs to expand. And for the Marlins to come back and win, Marlins, man, they gave this crowd a serious jolt, two-run shot from Griffin, Kona, and a solo home run from Kyle Stowers to make it tighter. And unfortunately, this Cubs offense did a little bit too much too early, and the late comeback effort was thwarted by Bolt pen by committee for Craig Council. This game had a lot of twists and turns, AJ Ramos. Where do you want to even start here? Is it the Marlin offense, is it the Cubs offense? I think the Cubs offense. I want to start there, because it seemed like once Miami would build a little bit momentum, the Cubs would come back and get a run of their own as well. It just speaks to the veteran lineup that they have, the understanding the situation that, okay, they're getting a little too close here. We got to make sure we get one over. And then they were capitalizing on the walks, on the bad pitches.

2:02It seemed like Gusto from the start didn't really have his best stuff. He was leaving a lot of breaking pitches over the middle of the plate. And he walked four guys, two of them scored in that third inning. So the Marlins didn't help themselves with those things, but yeah, it was one of those things where once they start to build a little momentum, the Cubs started to just cut it, you know, the next inning. And credit to the Marlins for mounting a little momentum at points too, because, you know, it can be tough against a guy that is frustrating and Javier Assad, but they did break through a little bit against Assad and Griffin, Konheim, man. That was a tape measure shot, Stowers, another tape measure shot. If those guys are slugging, this could be a really fun month. Yeah, I mean, they showed what they can do there. And I really like the A.B.s that Konheim had. He seems to be honing in on his zone. He's not chasing as much that last inning where he challenged and the ball was, you know, a half inch or even less off the plate before that he took a slider that was a slider in.

3:03He didn't, he didn't chase. So his ability to really hone in on the zone is the reason why when they do make a mistake to him because he's bringing the bringing the pitcher to him, he's able to really do damage. And tonight, Stowers is the same thing. Stowers is, we talked about earlier, do you want them on the field as a D.H. or first basement? Just want them on the field. We want them in the lineup. We want them is bad in that lineup because he's seeing the ball well right now and you want them in there. So you have them out there at D.H. and let them let them work. You know what? Let's go get a win tomorrow. Yes, let's do it. All right, highlights. When we come back here again, Marlins fall six, five here on the Marlins radio network. 4:04How did this ball game sound? Well, we'll play the highlights now and scoring open with a big swing at the top of the third from the lead off man, Michael Conforto for Chicago. Three one, Conforto crushes out to center field and deep. Marcy on the move all the way back. Marcy leaps and it's just over his glove and gone. Waterneffert from Jacob Marcy, but what a swing from Michael Conforto on the other side. 411 feet to straight away center field. And a solo shot. Conforto is fork teaped on the year. Open scoring. It's one nothing. Chicago in the road. The other big swing in that top of the third inning came about seven hitters later from Ian Hap. Three one, Hap smokes out to right. Casey can play that on a hop and two may come in his score here with runners on the move. Senoha's got the relay throw and he puts it in his pocket. Maya scores from third Suzuki and from second pregnant first to third and it's a two run single for Hap. Chicago up three nothing in the top of the third.

5:04Now the Cubs will make it four nothing on a peak crow arm strong. The RBI single in the fourth inning with a fish. They would get on the board. They had some serious foot traffic. Bases loaded for Owen Casey and he did a job. He did a job. Oh, two Casey with the chopper rights out of the infield. Second baseman Ramirez has got any fires to the middle man. The shortstop corner to get the out there. But the Marlins get a run in. It's an RBI fielders choice. Casey is a board and the Marlins are on the board. It's four one Chicago here in the bottom of the fourth. Now the Marlins made it four two on this RBI like force out from Joe Mac. It looked like a sacrifice fly on a sliding catch for me and Hap. But apparently he didn't catch it. Regardless, the run came in to make it four to two. But Chicago would add a stiff arm and an RBI single from Nico Horner. But Griffin Konai made this thing mighty interesting with one big swing. Two one. The Konai crushes out the writing team. No doubt about this. Half way up the second deck.

6:07It's a one run game. 430 feet on a beauty of a bomb from nine. Now Griffin Konai is 15th home run on the year and is first against a lefty. But then Michael Bush had a response for Chicago in a big spot in the sixth. First pitch from Calvin. Bush with a broken bat little looper that's in to write that's down for a piece. So no hot can't get to it. Casey picks it up and who'll lock it back in. Runner goes first to third in Suzuki. But that is an RBI single on a broken bat from Michael Bush. And it's six four Chicago in the top of the sixth. But then in the bottom of the seventh another big swing. This one from Kyle Stowers. Two one. Stowers it's high in the air out to straight away center and deep. Pro Armstrong is just looking up. Kyle Stowers to dead center. It's his 19th home run on the year and it's a one run game.

7:09No doubt shot for Kyle. 442 feet. Six five Chicago in the bottom of the seventh. Now the Marlins the comeback efforts were thwarted in the eighth. It was a double off the top of the wall from S.T.A. to the very Louise that nearly tied the game. Instead of missing a homer by maybe six inches. But he was stranded at third base. And after a two out walk overturned from a strikeout to a walk by Griffin. Conan using the ABS challenge system. The Marlins had the time run on base and brought the winning run to the plate in Otto Lopez. But unfortunately that was all she wrote. Otto lifts that one out to right center field. Suzuki crow Armstrong. They converge Suzuki underneath. He makes the catch and this Paul being it is over. Ryan Zeppro John locks it down. He issued the walk to Conan which was overturned by the ABS challenge system. But in the end Otto flies out the right fillers is. And the cups.

8:11Hold on and beat the fish six five here on Saturday evening at Long Beach ballpark. Now that's how this one sounded when we come back. I think this will start there. That nine minute enter. Are you over coming up to the top people? Where do you think of the back quality there at the end of the game trying to, you know, tie that one up? Yeah, I mean I think you know, Stowers not there looking to be aggressive against him out over the plate like you just got on top of a sinker. And then you know, I thought guys got off good swings. Really good at bats grips was terrific. You know to hang in there battle three two, you know, win a really close challenge and extend it to auto. So it was ever hunt really tough on righties. I think you know both those guys, you know, hung in there well. And yeah, I mean, you know, losing never feels great. But this was a fun intense game. It was a great atmosphere, you know, here today. And we clawed back and clawed back again.

9:12And you know, we just didn't get over the, you know, didn't get over the hump today and take a lead. But you know what our guys love about them. You know what they're going to, that's how they're going to show up each day. And you know what, we just ran out of time. Yeah, a lot of back and forth. And this is going to go back to the beginning and starts with Gusto. Obviously he's been so good as a late. Didn't quite look himself today and obviously given the opportunity to go a little deeper into the pitch count there. So what do you think the Gusto or the decision-making process there with his game? Yeah, I think he certainly, you know, was it maybe in the same kind of rhythm he's been. I mean, again, and some credit to the Cubs too. And it's a good lineup, not only with the ability to do some damage, but we've seen how they work at bats and put a lot of pressure on him. I think they drove up his pitch count. You know, early there was a second or third anywhere with pitch count. You know, that inning got into the 30. So I think they, you know, credit to them and to Ryan for hanging in there and giving up a three spot. But then to continue going on and limit some damage.

10:15And I mean, reason to keep in there, it's, there's a lot of game left to play there. At that point, you know, we're down by multiple runs, you know, or more and trying to get as much as we could out of him to, you know, get ourselves a little further in the game and, you know, and see what our offense could do. And then make it a determination of, you know, kind of how, you know, I think what's the best way to try to, you know, continue running out the rest of the game. This is a pretty game, though. Just he has a run against a left-ade, a walk that he, that just wants to have to speak to his game and how this kind of thing works out. Yeah, it's been great, hadn't it? It's, I think for all of us to just see, I looked up there at one point today and I think, you know, Griff now to have 250 play-to-parents is, you know, here, which I think that's a big deal too. I think this is just nice to be able to, again, continue to see Griff. He certainly has earned, you know, the opportunities that he's getting through the production and, you know, get his at-back quality is getting better. And also just, you know, have him out there on a regular basis, you know, for him and us to, you know, and see it. And so, not surprised with the power. I think that we all believe that Griff, you know, has this type of ability to impact and slug, and it's nice to see him, you know,

11:23drawn his share of walks, I think, again, like the back quality is getting better. And that puts him in a position where if he's, you know, hunting the right type of pitches, he's going to give himself a chance to do damage because he hits the ball really hard and generally hits it in the air. You just remember, I know how things have happened afterwards, but it's been very, I guess, maybe not, could it maybe been a triple? And I just, how did you see that? It looked like you made fun of that at all. Maybe, I don't know. I didn't really, let's see that that much. I was kind of hitting it and hoping it was going to, you know, to get out of here. So, again, come off the bench and put a great swing on one. And, you know, so again, he's done that a lot this year. Another place, who should have had the cutoff on the- Yeah, it was the PCA hit to center field earlier in the game. That's Griff. And there were a couple times today where there was another hit later on to write and Griff. Those are his spots to be. And I think that, you know, I think where I can point to Marcy, but, you know, as an outfielder, you come up there, you know, expecting there to be a cutoff man. And potentially, well, I know, I think Marce would know that he wouldn't have a play at the plate,

12:26but then the chance for the batter runner to potentially get aggressive and, you know, a chance to get out of an inning. So, that's just one where Griff's got to be there. Were there any more situations when he's getting the press base? Was there any more than the 4th inning you did? No, I didn't. And that's basically not the 4th inning. It wasn't interesting putting more people on the bases when we're already down by multiple runs. And so, no, I didn't. Is what's your analysis of our two games through the Cubs? How they kind of play their game and everything? Well, me, what really stands out is defensively. It's a really buttoned up, you know, outfit. And I think that's without Dan Speed, it's shortstop. So, I think one, it's, you know, it hits a hard to come by. And the other thing that stands out is, again, like they're, you can tell there's a real definite plan with each of their guys when they go to the plate. I think they're on top of things when the runners are on second base. And I think they just are, you know, very much in tune with looking for edges. And then I think, you know, just their willingness to grind through it bats. And, you know, you certainly have some dynamic offensive players in that lineup.

13:29So, I think, you see it. It's a tough, you know, it's tough to navigate through with how they can, you know, move the ball around the field and there is some slug in the lineup. And then they just, you know, do a good job forcing you, you got to get them engaged in the strike zone. And, you know, I think, and we've done that this series and we've gotten engaged and, you know, we're definitely pitchable, but it's a, you know, it's a tough group. Ryan Gusto, he takes his fourth loss of the year. He goes four and two thirds, gives up ten hits, five earn runs, he punches five, he walks two, he was Gusto post game. So, you know, I think that's a tough one for overall thoughts and your performance today. Against this really strong, yeah, I don't think I was quite as sharp as I could have been or should have been. But I felt like I, you know, battled as best as I possibly could all day. And I think they won the battle more times than not. And I mean, that's obviously very frustrating and not the best place for me to be in, but, you know, I can't knock, you know, how good of a line if they have. And, you know, if I'm not executing at the clip that I need to be, you know, that's what's going to happen. And I think that in your view was the reason for lack of execution as your...

14:30Yeah. I think that, you know, it just happened sometimes, right? Like, I don't know that there's anything that, you know, I did wrong for say like in my prep, you know, I think that sometimes you just aren't rolling out there with your 100% best stuff. And today was one of those days that I just couldn't really make it work as well as I would have liked to. Because of the third inning where the two... Whatever anything was where the throw by Marcy and Mack just speak to, like, some of the defense that I know. Yeah. No, I mean... No, it was all incredible, right? Like, it's really fun to get outs on the base heads. Like when Marcy's making that great throw, you know, Mack's making that great throw to third, like, Polly, like, his catch and tag on that play saw the slow motion, like, well, that was sick. So, I mean, it's sort of really good feeling out there, like, rolling that double play as well. So, having that defense behind you, I mean, gives you a lot of confidence as well. I kind of just stretch, I guess, what it's six starts and all of a sudden, you know, you have, I guess, your first, like, step back in a month or so. How do you kind of, you know, know, you get back on track. And then you just push the side. Yeah. I mean, I think the routine the last week was a little bit wacky, if you will, you know,

15:30we had some rough travel, like, some rough, you know, like nights of sleep and whatnot. So, it's like, I don't want to go too deep into, you know, everything that played into it, right? But I think that just relying on the routine and making sure that everything is, you know, going well as far as what I'm used to, what I need to be doing and what's been working. And I have, you know, no lack of confidence that's going to continue working. So, you know, luckily, I get to get back out there in five or six days and get back on track. I guess, um, especially a bit back on the comp's lineup, what, the setting side, how are you executing or whatnot? Just want to make some difficult to navigate and how do they maybe compare it to the other teams or line of two face so far? Yeah. I mean, I think they really just, you know, put together good at bats, you know, like, they were spoiling some good pitches, you know, they were waiting to get something that they could put into play, right? And they were doing that, you know, and they had a lot of hits tonight, right? Like, I think that just goes to show, like, the approach that they have at the plate and they were better than me than me tonight. All right, Marlon's fall now to 71 and 72.
