Mark Vientos Struggles in Spring Training

The 26-year-old infielder is batting just 3 for 36 overall, with plenty of strikeouts along the way. He started hitless in his first 12-ad bats during Grey Fruit League play, managed only two hits and 15 tries during pool games with Nicaragua. And when 0 for 8 in his latest outings against the Astros, manager Carlos Mendoza remains optimistic though. He points out Vientos is smashing the ball hard, like over 100 miles per hour exit velocities, but running into bad luck right now. Vientos had a breakout work he season last year, blasting 27 home runs and shining in the playoffs. But he slipped to a 233 average with 17 homers and a lower arm-based percentage in the full campaign. With more competition for playing time this spring, Vientos knows he has to earn his spot. He says it's nothing new, and he's ready to prove himself over the coming weeks.
