Mariners Pitchers Experiment with PitchCom Devices

Seattle Mariners' pictures are experimenting with pitch-com devices to call their own pitches during spring training. Logan Gilbert plans to use it in his next cactus league start to speed things up, especially with runners on base. A day earlier, George Kirby wore one on his belt against the brewers and called about eight or ten pitches himself. Gilbert explained that shaking off the catcher multiple times eats into the pitching clock, making him feel rushed and tipping off base runners. He tried it once last season, but admitted, he enjoys shaking off catcher Cal Raleigh more since it buds him. The device lets pitchers signal changes instantly without hints to hitters. Brian Wu does not plan to try it soon, preferring to trust the catcher's call and stay in a flow state. He credits that trust for the rotation strength, though he's learning to take more control sometimes. The Mariners trim their spring roster to 67 players on Monday, sending pitcher Gabe Mosser, utility man Blake Rambush and Outfielder.
