Manaea's Spring Debut, Williams' Sharpness, Stock's Injury

Sean Manaya made his first spring training start for the Metz against the Marlins, showing a drop of more than three miles per hour on his fastball, and Sinker compared to last year. The left-hander pitch three innings gave up one hit which was a homer in the first, and through 33 pitches with just 19 for strikes. Manaya brushed off the velocity issue, blaming the odd mound at the stadium, and it being his debut against another team. He felt healthy after last year's oblique strain and elbow problem, and liked how his change-up and cutter performed. Manager Carlos Mendoza agreed not to overreact, praising the cutter's movement and Manaya's strike throwing. He noted Manaya is tweaking his arm slot higher to stay off the injured list. Devin Williams has looked sharp early on, striking out three in one inning earlier this week, and tossing another scoreless frame, Friday.
