0:00On March 23rd, a 46-year-old man from East London faces theft charges after taking a 150,000-pound antique violin from a pub in North London. Ahmed Semy Medur is accused of grabbing the instrument from violinist David Ibanas while he ate at the Marquess Tavern in Eilington last February, 18th. The violin dates back to 1740 in Florence and was on loan to Ibanas for his shows with the Philharmonia Orchestra. On the same day, Medur allegedly stole a 4,000-pound guitar and nearby hackney, leading to two theft counts against him. For even as, the violin is more than valuable, it's priceless, central to his career with one of London's top orchestras, police appeal for tips right after the theft, highlighting its huge personal and financial worth. Medur was arrested last June 25th, charged this past January 19th and pleaded not guilty at Snare's Brook Crown Court last week. Officials released him on bail with no conditions. His trial is now scheduled for May 10th, 2027, as the case moves forward through the courts.
