Man Pleads Guilty to Islamophobic Rape, Faces Life Sentence

He also admitted to religiously aggravated assault, intentional strangulation, and robbery, all fueled by Islamophobic slurs because he wrongly thought she was Muslim. This all went down back in October last year when Ashby followed her home from work. She heard a noise downstairs, tried to lock the bathroom door, but he barged in, attacked her, called her vile names, and claimed he was her master. Before grabbing her jewelry and phone and bolting after a sound spooked him outside, the victim was set to testify Tuesday, but strong DNA and fingerprint evidence sealed the deal, plus body cam footage, where she described the, hate-filled ordeal, Ashby got napped three days later and stayed mostly silent in interviews except snarky comments about her faith.
