Man on Trial for Housemate's Murder

A 45-year-old man named Amrit Powell Singh is on trial for murder after stabbing his housemaid in the heart at their shared home in Evington, Lester. The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, October 5th last year, leaving 30-something Amit Kumar dead at the scene. Prosecutors say Singh have been drinking heavily and using cocaine, possibly heroin too, when an argument broke out after 1 a.m. Even housemaid called 999 for help, but Singh fled the house barefoot, tossing the knife into a neighbor's garden before hiding in nearby, and heading to a friend's place. The defense admits Singh held the knife, but claims he acted in self-defense and the stabbing was an accident.
