On March 6th, a 28-year-old man named Layton Garner has been jailed after trying to groom who he thought was a 14-year-old girl, online. He got 15 months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on March 2nd for attempting to engage a child in sexual activity and related, communication offenses. Last summer, in July and August, Garner started chatting on social media with someone posing as the teen, set up by an online activist group using an adult volunteer. He fell for it completely and kept pushing the conversation forward. He sent explicit pictures, asked for some back, and even talked openly about her age after seeing a photo. Garner planned to meet her at a hotel for six and set up another rendezvous at a red fruit supermarket on August 2nd. Instead of the girl, group members showed up, confronted him, and called the police right there. Garner, who has no fixed address, later pleaded guilty to the charges. Nottingham Shire Police called his actions predatory and praised the strict 10-year sexual
harm prevention order, which limits his internet use and, contact with kids, they warn any breach means straight back to jail, helping keep others safe moving forward.
