A judge in New South Wales has turned down an appeal from a 61-year-old man trying to cut short his 15-month jail term for aggravated. Animal cruelty Michael Anthony Holmes has been in custody since last month after pleading guilty to the offense in the Seven Tablelands. The trouble started last April when Holmes found an injured kangaroo on his property near Bywong that couldn't stay improperly. Instead of helping it, he tied a robe around its neck and dragged it behind his car before driving off. Later that day, a passerby spotted the suffering animal which was barely breathing and called wildlife rescuers. It was rushed to a sanctuary in Bungendor but didn't survive prompting police involvement. Holmes claimed he was just moving the kangaroo off his land and called the animal's pests with no sign of regret. Police describe his actions as reckless, causing extreme pain to an already heard creature. In court, his lawyer pushed for home-based supervision, citing rehab potential, and new health concerns,
