I'm Cory, and this is your Pulse of the City. Lester News today. A 41-year-old man from Lester named Joseph Hopkinson has lost his appeal against the seven-year two-month prison sentence for arranging A. Child sex offense against a 10-year-old girl. He claimed the whole plot was just a fantasy, and that he got bad legal advice to plead guilty. But judges at the Court of Appeal rejected that. Outright. Over seven weeks of online messages, Hopkinson told an undercover officer, posing as a mother that he liked young girls and wanted to abuse her. Daughter while drugging her with cannabis. He even traveled to meet her in Sheltonham, carrying cannabis, cannabis oil, and viagra, where police arrested him right on the train platform. Lady Justice Andrews called his fantasy excuse, completely fanciful, saying no jury would buy it. She pointed out how he tried deleting his chat accounts just before the meet-up, which looked like he had plenty to hide. Judges also noted Hopkinson's past convictions for child indecent images, so he knew exactly
what he was doing when he pleaded guilty. They ruled his lawyer's advice was spot-on, and that he wasted huge amounts of court time with over-the-top letters during the appeal. On top of the upheld sentence, Hopkinson now faces an extra 56 days in prison from a loss of time order for dragging things out. He's on the sex offender's register for life, and under an indefinite sexual harm prevention order. This episode is supported by our sponsor, C Details in the description.
