On March 14th, a 50-year-old man from East Manchester named Stephen Farrell has been jailed for a brutal campaign of abuse against his girlfriend. He held a knife to her throat, forced dog feces into her mouth, and put a plastic bag over her head while making death threats. The attacks left her with severe injuries and ongoing trauma. Their relationships started right after his release from prison in October 2024. Farrell quickly moved into her home in Rosendale, East Lancashire, and used cocaine almost daily. He was extremely jealous and controlled her life, even walking her to and from work every day. The violence peaked over a couple of days in late April. He strangled her dog, beat her with a hair dryer, and turned off her alarm to sabotage her job. A neighbor heard screens but stayed quiet at first, and so police finally got involved after a friend called them. The woman now battles post-traumatic stress disorder, with flashbacks that ruin her sleep and will affect her for life. She told the court she feared for her life during the suffocation attempts and ended up

covered in bruises. Farrell pleaded guilty to controlling behavior, suffocation, and assault, causing actual bodily harm. The judge called him dangerous, sentencing him to three years and five months in prison, plus one year on extended license to protect others from more. Harm.
