This is Corey, here with your quick two-minute update from Lester News today. A 28-year-old man from Lester has had his prison sentence increased after driving his car into a crowd on the street. Govinder Singh plowed his Volkswagen into a group of people fighting outside a club, injuring four men and leaving one woman with life-altering injuries. This happened just after midnight on May 31, 2025. Singh had rushed to the scene after his brother got kicked out of a nearby venue. He drove straight into the fight, then got out and assaulted more people before speeding off to hide his license plates near his home. Police tracked down the car quickly. Victims described ongoing anxiety, pain, and trauma from the attack with one being Singh's own cousin. Injuries included spine fractures, a brain bleed, and a 5-centimeter gash to the head. Initially, after pleading guilty to serious assault charges, he got seven and a half years in jail, back on November 7, 2025. The solicitor general stepped in under the unduly lenient sentence rules, and the court

of appeal agreed last Friday, March 6. They bumped his time up by two and a half years to a full ten years, calling the original too light for the full harm caused. Singh also faces a 12-year driving ban as part of the tougher penalty. Officials stressed his reckless intent turned a street scuffle into serious violence.
