Man Dies Protecting Teen, Suspects Arrested

A 22-year-old man died after stepping in to protect a teenage boy from a group assault at a busy railway station in Melbourne's outer North. Police say he escorted the boy away from the station during evening peak hour, but the attackers followed and turned on him instead. The group punched and kicked the man and used an edged weapon in the attack. Bystanders rushed to give first aid until paramedics arrived, but he passed away right there at the scene. Homicide detectives quickly arrested four suspects nearby, a 16-year-old boy, two 17-year-old, and an 18-year-old man. It's a heartbreaking case of someone trying to do the right thing, ending in tragedy. Three of them now face charges of murder and armed robbery. The 16-year-old and one 17-year-old will go before a children's court soon, while the 18-year-old from Mill Park appears in. Millborn magistrates court this Sunday. The other 17-year-old is in hospital under police guard and hasn't been questioned yet.
