Man Arrested for Hammer Attack on Elderly Man

0:00From Tampa Bay, this is your March 6 update. Largo Police arrested a 55-year-old man this week for trying to murder an 84-year-old stranger with a hammer. Brian Rye faces charges of attempted first-degree murder after claiming God commanded the attack because he thought the victim was a pedophile. The two men had no prior connection. Rye showed up at the victim's home, knocked on the door, and threw a liquid in the man's face to blind him. He then grabbed a hammer from his toolbox and struck the victim repeatedly. The elderly man ended up with severe wounds to his eyes, arms, and head. He survived the brutal assault, but it left him badly hurt. Rye confessed to officers that he plans to kill the victim. Police added charges including burglary, with battery, aggravated battery, criminal mischief, and resisting an officer. He's being held in Pinellas County, jail. Meanwhile, couples across the Tampa Bay area are rushing to replan weddings after their venue suddenly closed without warning, scrambling to save.
