It's April 22nd, California news today starts now, AI powered and ready. I'm Cory with the story. A 25-year-old man named Julian Santana Rico got hit with heavy felony charges this week for a deadly shooting at a costume party back in East. Palo Alto, he allegedly gunned down two guys, Eduardo Sandoval from Stockton and Mario Vidalas Mendez from Redwood City while wounding two others outside A, two in company lot. Cop say he fired nine shots from a semi-automatic handgun after some fights broke out. This all went down on October 14, 2018, around 2.45 a.m. when the party got wild with drinking and brawls among young, folks in their late teens. Rico, who was a student at San Francisco State University at the time, bolted right after and hit out in Mexico, even teaching English at a school. There, families of the victims have carried dispane for eight long years, finally feeling a spark of hope now that he's in custody. The district attorney called it a big step toward justice,
noting the charges include murders, attempted murders, and assaults with gun enhancements. To cover all angles, a non-profit group, mothers against murder, put up a $20,000 reward back in 2020 that led to his arrest and their set to pay. It out, one survivor needed 15 surgeries just to pull through. Rico's locked up with no bail and McGuire Correctional Facility, heading back to court on April 28 to enter his plea and keep this case. Rolling toward real accountability.
